Local Entrepreneur Highlights Innovation At 2015 Royal Fair

By Kelly Bowers At this years’s Royal

Fair, you may have seen a new product called The Tapestry Comfort Girth at the Picov’s Horsemen Cen- tre or Baker’s Saddlery booth. The unique girth is the second equine related invention of Linda Hauck, creator of her revolutionary Spursuader. A few years back,

Hauck designed, made and launched a patented equine product considered “the kinder spur” called Spur- suader. She partnered with the respected and interna- tionally successful, Shires Equestrian, based in the UK who continues to man- ufacture and distribute the Spursuader spur around the world. So, understandably, Hauck approached Shires again to help with the man- ufacturing of the Tapestry Comfort Girth. Every problem has a

solution. In this case, the problem is an uncomfort- able girth that restricts and presses on the rib cage of the horse. When Hauck came up with the girth design, she showed it to an equine researcher at the University of Guelph and asked him where a horse expands when it breathes. He answered “from the sternum to 2/3 of the way up the ribcage”. Linda knew that was exactly where traditional girths don’t allow for expansion, and she was told her girth was a brilliant idea. So, what does

Hauck’s Tapestry Comfort Girth do? It helps to alle- viates girth pain which is shown to be greatest over the musculature behind the elbow. The benefits of using the Tapestry Comfort Girth can be cumulative - over time a horse may feel better, demonstrate a longer stride and relax while performing. How does it do this? The Tapestry Comfort girth has 3 key components that separate it from the girth of past generations. Two lay- ers

of stretchy

webbing hug the part of the horse’s ribcage and expand when the horse breathes, minimizing restriction and pressure points. A 6” Sternum pad

made of quality non-slip neoprene keeps the girth in place. When the rider tight- ens the girth equally on both sides, there is equal distribution of pull. A D- ring attachment for martin- gales and breastplates. One needs to do this girth up just as tight as the tradi- tional girths but it will still provide give when the horse moves. Quality materials are

used with the buckle ends and the part of the Sternum

pad that does not contact the horse made of easy care brown leather while the buckles and D-Ring are high quality stainless steel.

Hauck believes that

every horse deserves the comfort of a Tapestry Comfort Girth. So, the product comes in sizes from 38” to 54” in the English style, and in 30” and 32” in the Western

style. This kinder girth is designed to partner perfect- ly with the kinder spur. Available in select tack stores.
