SC Dining Dave and Sharon wanted the

restaurant to focus on incorporating recycled furniture, not only to help the environment but also, to pre- serve a little piece of the previous in- habitants (a bakery). To this end they took the wire bread baskets from the old location and turned them into chandeliers. They also took the old ovens and made them into different types of art - one is in- side just hanging on a wall; another is planted with succulents and hung outside. But décor and furnishings are

not the only things that have changed at Cassano’s. In addition to this fresh outlook, they have turned to fresher foods, using or- ganic produce and incorporating gluten free options. Although the menu is relatively the same as that from the pier, and the regular op- tions are available every day, the menu now boasts more options and specials which change frequently depending on the or- ganic produce delivered. Sharon also makes the house Balsamic Vinaigrette with no added sugar so diners can truly enjoy a guilt free salad. In addition to organic produce and more

gluten free options (including a gluten free beer), they have also expanded their beer and wine list. Their selections now include six craft beers on tap and three by the bottle, with sam-

ples available. The wine list boasts over 22 bot- tles to choose from, by the glass and by the bot- tle. Diners enjoying libations can choose to sit at the reclaimed bakery bread pan bar or in the main dining area. Although alcoholic beverages are currently not allowed outside, Cassano’s has big plans to make even more improvements to their current space by creating an open air restaurant. This would mean some kind of re- tractable doors will replace the wall of windows

at the entrance to the restaurant and the out- doors would be closed in and more private, al- lowing them to serve drinks outdoors. Although they have only been officially

open for two months, Cassano says they have experienced an outpouring of support from the community. Everyone seems thrilled to have this original San Clemente pizza place back in action. So to clear the confusion - yes it is the same Cassano’s, yes they are back after a year

break, no they didn’t change their menu (much), and yes they are completely revamped. Cassano’s is open from 11:30am - 9pm

Sunday - Thursday and until 10pm on the weekends.
