SC Dining

back in town? Cassano’s … and it’s better than ever!

Guess whose story and photos by Jamie Brinkman S

linging pizzas since 1986, Dave Cassano and Sharon Torres have made this busi- ness their life for almost 30 years.

Most San Clementeans recognize Cas-

sano’s as the “pizza place by the pier.” However, after losing their lease for that spot about a year ago, Dave and Sharon were forced to look for a new home for Cassano’s. The two took some much needed time off to regroup and find a new home for their beloved restaurant. The lo- cation was very important to the continued success of their eatery and they were not only looking for a great location, but a great space and an understanding landlord. After moving out of their original location,

they thought that maybe a pickup and delivery only service would be best for their business, but after lots of browsing, the duo found a

space that gave them more than they had expected; it not only had a great central location, but it was larger than they had anticipated and the added space gave them the freedom to do more with the restaurant. They decided to in house dining as well as pickup and delivery and they decided to do it even better than it was before. The new and improved Cas-

Cassano’s new bar serves specialty beers and a larger selection of wines.

sano’s is located on south El Camino Real in the heart of San Clemente, next door Radio Shack and across the street from Ralph’s; and the neighborhood has welcomed them with open arms. The exterior of the restaurant hosts wooden, umbrella dining tables, surrounded

by little green trees. A welcoming chalkboard at the entrance alerts diners to the specials of the day. Upon entering, don’t be alarmed - you

might think you’re in the wrong place! The new and improved Cassano’s bears no resem- blance to the interior of its former home. This

interior is hip and fresh and features many re- purposed materials. Reclaimed wood lines the walls while an

upside-down pizza sign and bread basket chan- deliers dangle from the ceiling. You might feel as if you’re walking into a gastro pub but alas it really is Cassano’s.
