Pharmacist of the Year
LAURA DONAGHEY Boots the Chemist, Belfast
Laura is a passionate, energetic and caring Pharmacist, who strives to give the best care to her patients each and every day in her busy pharmacy. With an intense dispensing business and late night opening Monday to Friday, Boots Woodstock is always a hive of activity, and Laura thrives on this. Even though the pharmacy is located on a busy arterial road in Belfast, Laura has worked tirelessly with the local community to ensure that the role of the Pharmacist is key to the health and wellbeing of patients in the Woodstock locality. She always strives to help patients as best as she can and as the work with the W- Mens BCPP project progressed she was immediately looking for another which brought her to lead the three year BCPP project with the Hungarian and Romanian community in Woodstock.
CHARLIE McMULLAN Clear Pharmacy, Coleraine
Charlie has been the Pharmacy Manager at Clear Pharmacy in Waterside since November 2008. He has been qualified for over 10 years and initially worked for Lloyds as a locum pharmacist before becoming a branch Manager. Charlie always strives to ensure customer/patient satisfaction in every interaction he and his team have with their surrounding community. He is passionate about health care and health promotion and works to educate and inform everyone that he comes into contact with. Committed to the delivery of exemplary pharmaceutical practice and customer service, he has instilled his staff and pre-registration students with these core values so that his high standards are carried on even when not carried out by him personally. Keeping abreast of the changes within pharmacy keeps him personally motivated to continue to develop and hone his own skills in order to be able to impart his knowledge to others.
PETER McKEE Locum Pharmacist
Peter has excelled in the Pharmacy field at such a young age, if it wasn't for his forward thinking and innovation there wouldn't be an e-portfolio in place which is extremely beneficial to both tutors, trainees and patients. He is always looking at ways to improve the e-portfolio and ensure Pre-registration trainees are trained to the highest standard in the interests of the patients and public. His motivation and own desire to learn and develop is evident from his commitment to CPD and his decision to take on a part time PhD at Queen's University. He has managed to integrate this into his role as Pre-registration Lead and has already published a paper looking at how Tutors selection of OTC medicines influence their trainees choices in practice and whether these are evidence based recommendations for patients. He has ensured the provision of high standards of training to ensure that trainees joining the register are capable of undertaking the duties and responsibilities of a practising Pharmacist as required by the Pharmaceutical Society NI.
