“Awards offer the opportunity to not just ‘take stock’ and think about all that has been achieved by a pharmacy team, whether that be in the community or hospital setting, but to gain recognition for those achievements”

Multiple personal opinions about the nominee, although lovely to read, aren’t usually relevant.

Instead, obtain testimonials and feedback from both patients and other healthcare professionals who have had contact with the award nominee. These add ‘colour’ to the entry and demonstrate the impact of the person’s efforts.

For team entries, again supply as much detail as you can. Set the context and outline any motivating strategies which influenced the decision to do a particular project e.g. government policy or financial pressures.

Explain clearly the steps taken by all members of the team in order to achieve the desired outcomes.

Most importantly, as this is the bit that is often missing, tell the judges about these outcomes. These, for example, may be clinical, financial or improvements in stakeholder satisfaction.

A basic recommendation; please do not hand write your entry. Type on the application forms provided and continue on as many pages as you

wish so as to give your entry the best winning chance.

Judges really do not mind taking the time to read your entire entry and give due consideration to everything you have to convey.

The feeling of being fair and making the correct decision weighs heavy as we reach our conclusions within each category.

Of course hearing about being short- listed for an award immediately results in the (predominantly female) reaction about what to wear to this fabulous night out!

Enjoy your awards event and remember to take full advantage of being short-listed or winning.

Ensure the press know about your achievements, advertise your success and inform all stakeholders.

Dissemination and publication is key to gaining most benefit.

This could be the start of your next project when once again I want to hear our inspiring pharmacy profession shouting very loudly from the rooftops.

Good luck with your entry!  27
