Current balance I 4555.10 Apparatus for Laplace’s law
This apparatus demonstrates the force on a conductor in a magnetic field. It consists of a pair of metal rails with 4 mm ter- minals. A light aluminium axle can roll freely along the rails and thus completes the electrical contact between them. A strong U-shaped magnet is required to complete the setup, use e.g. item no. 3315.00 (not included). Place the axle on the rails between the poles of the magnet. When a current flows through the axle, it will be influenced by a force perpendicular to both the axle and the magnetic field – i.e. along the rails. Dimensions: 190 x 85 x 65 mm.
4555.10 Apparatus for Laplace’s law
For demonstrating and measuring the interaction between an electric conductor and a magnetic field. The proportionality between force, current and conductor length can be shown. The equipment consists of a magnet holder with removable permanent magnets and a holder for wire frames which are mounted by means of 4 mm plugs.
The set consists of: – 1 magnet holder with 6 permanent magnets – 1 holder for wire frames – 6 wire frames with wire lengths of 8 - 6 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 cm
For the experiment you will also need a retort stand, a ba- lance with 0.01 g accuracy and a variable DC power supply. A power supply with a variable current limiter like 3630.00 is most convenient.

This is an extension for 4565.00 in order to show the angle dependency of the magnetic force. The permanent magnet assembly has a large gap in order to allow the vertical part of the conductor to rotate in the field. The scale has one degree subdivisions and can easily be zeroed. (You will also need 4565.00 – as well as a stand, a balance and a power supply.)
