goals. Your beliefs may need to be more aligned with your outcomes. Then there is the question of, ‹How
many times do I need to change my behaviour?› Well the answer is you need to be flexible as many times as it takes to get the results you want. Be flexible, be persistent.
5Create a supportive physiology
Huh? What I mean by physiology is the way you carry yourself. Hold yourself in a way that supports you to create the goals you want. There is no point in having a great dream and going for it and all the time your physiology and your psychology are indifferent. Imagine talking about your goals with drooped shoulders, eyes downcast, a flat voice and a lifeless face. Holding yourself that way will increase the chances of a negative mental state and a goal unachieved. To succeed you need to create a
3Have sensory awareness (or sensory acuity in NLP)
This means knowing whether or not you are being effective. Are you producing the results you wanted from the actions you are taking? There is no point in just taking action. You must also have awareness to know if the action is taking you closer to your desired goal or not. Is this ‘doing’ getting you the results you seek? If your answer is no then keep reading – the next success principle tells you how to get around this.
4Be flexible 36 AUGUST 2015 To achieve the outcomes you want
you need to have the flexibility to change in order to improve your chances of success. You need to know what you
want, you need to take action, you need to have sensory awareness and ask if this action is getting you the results you want And if it’s not producing the results you want you need to have the flexibility to change your behaviour and do it differently. Now this could be having the
flexibility to look at something from another angle, trying it another way, adding something, taking something out, or it could even be changing some of the beliefs you have. For example if you are aiming to
double your sales within a month, and you have a belief that you can’t actually achieve this then behavioural flexibility indicates that you need to alter these beliefs so that you can achieve your
physiology of excellence that conspires for your success. So next time you talk about your goals stand up tall, square your shoulders, look straight ahead, breathe deeply and calmly, speak with enthusiasm and create a physiology of excellence that supports you all of the time. It’s easy to have a physiology and a psychology of excellence when the going is good. True winners, the ones who consistently succeed, have a physiology of excellence even when the going is tough. Make a commitment to step up in your life, so that even when things get rough you are able to step up even more. Make your physiology and psychology become even more excellent when the going gets tough.
If you apply these principles in your
life you will be inspired by what you can achieve – and you will inspire others to do the same. n
