HALO’s Message Speaks Clearly to Hundreds of Professional Women

G

ood things come from sharing. Sharing stories, sharing dreams

and sharing goals, have been at the heart of HomeAid Houston’s annual fundraiser HALO (HomeAid’s Amazing Ladies Organization). HALO began with a small lunch in the kitchen at one of the early HomeAid projects with just a handful of women, but the vision has always been huge, and that vision belongs to Toy Wood, GHBA’s CEO and one of the first HomeAid Houston board members.

Since then, HALO has grown rapidly every year, as professional women in the industry attend the annual luncheon to hear about homelessness and how it can shatter lives of families and individuals, but also how it can inspire hope and healing. That small lunch in a kitchen years ago, has indeed grown. Today, when you have 300 women coming for lunch, good things happen.

THE HALO VISION:

Although I have served on the HomeAid board from the beginning, it was not until the organization generated a working board and structure that I really began to understand and feel the impact of the program. One thing was clear, all that was needed for our members to participate was for them to see and hear from the people whose lives were touched. I always believed that we, the board of HomeAid, and we, the GHBA members, should fully support HomeAid. I have a special interest in bringing in GHBA women to make HomeAid their charity of choice. I believe that this group should be a major base of support for HomeAid. So from the humble beginnings when about a dozen women met at one of the projects, to our 2015 upcoming event that will host 300 women at Lakeside Country Club, my goal of packing the big ballroom at the Hilton Americas is well on its way. This is a powerful group of women with big hearts who ‘get it.’ They are leaders in their fields and will step up to the HomeAid challenge. I want every woman who is a GHBA member to make HomeAid their charity of choice and join this dynamic group.

- TOY WOOD, CEO, GHBA

HALO has been a wonderful blessing for HomeAid and the hundreds of women who wanted to be part of something special that can make a difference in people’s lives. It has been a dream come true for me and for the HomeAid staff and volunteers, to share in Toy’s vision. HALO is reaching new heights in its ability to tell the story about homelessness while raising much needed funds to make things happen.
