NATIONAL SEA LIFE CENTRE The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham has appointed a new marketing manager. Despite being just 24-years old, George Paige brings a wealth of


experience with him to his new role, having worked on a number of key projects in the UK and across the globe during his two-year role on the Merlin Entertainments plc ‘Accelerate Graduate’ scheme. During this time, he worked for


Thorpe Park Resort, Sea Life Great Yarmouth and Hunstanton Sea Life Sanctuary, and various new attraction launches in the US and Japan. George, from Dorset, studied law


at the University of Exeter and is now responsible for overseeing all marketing activity at The National Sea Life Centre. He said: “I’ve loved working across such a variety of fun and charismatic


attractions within Merlin Entertainments so it’s fantastic that I now get to take the reins and champion all the campaigns for The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham – especially as it means I get to work with its legendary Gentoo penguin colony.”


JOHNSON FELLOWS Birmingham chartered surveying firm Johnson Fellows has welcomed Greg Meadwell as associate building surveyor. Greg has joined the company


from the Birmingham office of AA Projects, and his role will include handling schedules of dilapidations for landlords and tenants, schedules of condition, pre- acquisition surveys, stock condition surveys, party wall issues, health and safety, and expert witness instructions. Johnson Fellows partner Andrew Rowson said: “He brings with him a wealth of experience, which complements the expertise of the team.”


KATIE BARD A rising star has joined leading city recruitment firm Katie Bard. Louise Bennett, Birmingham


Future’s Graduate Apprentice for 2014/15, has entered the final leg of the annual scheme run by the young professional network. The 24-year-old has enjoyed four-


month spells with law firm Gateley and project management consultancy DBK and will now spend the next quarter of the year with the team at Katie Bard, based at the company’s Waterloo Street offices. Birmingham Future’s Graduate Apprentice scheme attracts hundreds of


applicants for a chance to spend four months working for three different employers in the region over a year. Louise, who is from Stourbridge and graduated from the University of


Leicester with a degree in French and English, is also a member of Birmingham Future’s development committee which helps young professionals grow both professionally and personally. “The experience I’ve gained and the contacts I’ve made since being on the scheme has been invaluable,” she said.

MINSTER MICRO COMPUTERS Mike Fielding has joined Kidderminster-based Minster Micro as as its new business sales consultant. Mike has worked previously across a broad range of business sectors,


both in the Midlands and abroad in Portugal. His appointment is a strategic


move for Minster as the firm looks to further enhance support for existing business and extend its service offer within the retail sector. Minster director Susan Marlow


said: “Mike’s appointment is a great addition to our skilled and expanding team, aiding both focus on development as well as operational skills as we progress the business and our market, both locally and further afield.” Minster is one of the longest


established and well-known IT firms in Worcestershire. Outside computers, Mike has a rather unusual interest in the sport of


mud running. Last year he completed the Midlands event of ‘Tough Mudder’, which involved running for 12 miles and tackling 26 obstacles, an event he will be attempting again this year. Mike said: “Being local, and being aware of Minster’s good reputation, I


was delighted to be invited to join such a respected business as Minster, and to bring my retail sales background and experience into a B2B environment. “I’m also looking forward to the ‘Tough Mudder’ event, before taking on my biggest challenge yet of becoming a dad.”


OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL Supply chain specialist Oakland International has appointed Barry Davies as its new managing director. Barry was previously managing


director of logistics for AF Blakemore & Son, and helped double the firm’s turnover in his eight years at the helm. Oakland International is an

award-winning family business and has depots in UK and Ireland for food and consumer goods, supplying major UK and Irish retail, wholesale, discount and convenience markets. Planned UK growth over the next


decade is aimed at quadrupling Oakland’s warehouse capacity and increasing turnover of £180m, by 2024. Barry said: “I am extremely pleased to be joining the Oakland

SENECA PARTNERS An investor and adviser to the SME sector has strengthened its Birmingham team with the appointment of business finance specialist David Totney. David has joined Seneca Partners to develop the Seneca Secured


Lending operation. He will also continue to work with Urica Limited, a global early payments network for SMEs, alongside his role at Seneca. David has had a wide range of roles in the commercial finance industry,


including executive board director of Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance. Seneca director Nick Leitch said: “It’s an exciting time for David to be


joining Seneca and his experience and skills set adds yet another dimension to our niche offering. The expansion of the business highlights our need to bolster our senior specialist resource to continue to support our SME customer base and investor network, as well as seek out new opportunities.”
