reorganisation within the Trust of stroke services, including the opening of a new state-of-the-art specialist unit at Heartlands Hospital earlier this year.

Rugby stars retire to take new roles
Moseley Rugby Club has announced the retirement of two long-serving players, fly half Ollie Thomas and back row Neil Mason. Both have decided to hang up
their boots from the first team but will be linking up with sister club Moseley Oak next season as player coaches. Both players came through the
highly rated Moseley mini and junior system, and the pair have played for the club a combined 500 times during the past 13 years. The ‘veterans’ are the same age,
with former England Counties fly half Thomas making his first team debut in 2002, and Mason three years later. Thomas holds most of the club
points records with his boot, whilst Mason was both club and first team captain during careers which saw both players pick up just about all the awards available. Moseley Oak chairman and
Moseley president elect John Richards said: “We are very excited at the prospect of these two distinguished Moseley players joining John White and Paul Cox as our coaches. “Neil and Ollie have both made
remarkable contributions to the 1st XV and we have every expectation that they will do the same with us.”

The reorganisation has led to improvements in care in the majority of areas, and Heartlands as one of the highest performing in the region, according to the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme (SSNAP). Peter Carr, lead nurse for stroke, said: “We are really
proud of the stroke service we provide at Heartlands Hospital. This data is an indication that introducing the new hyper acute stroke unit is proving to benefit patients through safer and improved quality of care. The first 72 hours after a stroke are critical, and it is fantastic that patients have fast access to the right specialist care which will enable them to make the best possible recovery.
“We are continuing to look for ways to further
improve so that we can build on the excellent performance to date for the benefit of our patients.” Dr David Sandler, clinical lead for stroke services at
Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The reconfiguration of stroke services has been a major step forward for Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. The indicators suggest a significant improvement in the care delivered to patients as well as outcomes. It would not have been possible if it were not for the collaborative working of clinicians of all disciplines and Trust management.”
Engineers reach 25-year milestone
A Kings Norton-based engineering group has celebrated 25 years in business – and particularly rapid growth in the past decade. Since 2005, Adi Group has quadrupled in size, both in turnover
and number of employees. The company was founded in 1990 by Alan Lusty, as Adi
Electrical. Today Adi is a multi-disciplined engineering group, comprising 16 specialist service companies. Located in Kings Norton business park and employing more
than 450 people, the group has a 2014 turnover of £64m, and is on track to increase to around 1,000 staff in the next five years. Mr Lusty said: “Adi Group has played a crucial role in delivering
regional growth. Our employee count has increased from 127 in 2005 to nearly 460 in 2015. In addition to this, we have significantly increased our investments in infrastructure within the Birmingham area by investing over £1m in our new offices and manufacturing facility at our Kings Norton base “While we are very proud to have employed a significant
proportion of our staff from within the Midlands area, we have also grown substantially elsewhere in the UK and Ireland, resulting in a total of 12 operational locations.”
