Parks, picnics and places to go!
Welcome to the Summer edition of Mid Kent Living. Regular readers may notice a few changes. It’s bigger, brighter and, we think, better –
packed with ideas how you and your family can make the most of the long school holidays and – hopefully – warm, balmy evenings.
Kent is not known as the Garden of England for nothing, yet many of us take the delights we have on our doorstep for granted.
In this issue, we take a stroll around Maidstone’s Mote Park – voted the second best park in Britain – and the picturesque and historic town of Westerham, with its quaint and quirky
shops and plethora of National Trust properties.
Readers have voted our Editor’s Choice a firm favourite, so we’ve expanded it to include even more places to go and things to see and do. As well as inexpensive events and activities for the little ones, we have also highlighted a few gigs and concerts more in tune with the tastes of the grown ups.
As well as boasting some of the best parks and gardens in the country, Kent is blessed with an abundance of theatres. This season, we focus primarily on the great outdoors as, weather permitting, that’s where we want to be! What could be more pleasant than sharing a bottle of bubbly and hamper of goodies with friends while being entertained by travelling thespians or wandering minstrels?
We even have some ideas for packing a truly Kentish picnic. See page 34.
Our personality this issue is the 85-year old founder of the European School of Osteopathy Margery Bloomfield – although she only admits to being 36. This formidable lady has led an extraordinary life. Read how she was reunited with her early love more than 50 years later – and her inspirational message to us all on pages 7-9.
