Maidstone Arts Festival, Jubilee Square, Maidstone Enjoy the up and coming local band Coco & The Butterfields, along with the festi-funk jazz sextet The Fabulous Red Diesel, while watching amazing street magic, live art and drama, and dance groups direct from the USA in Maidstone’s Jubilee Square. There will also be a street artist creating “live” graffiti on a massive canvas – and look out for the amazing displays of yarn bombing!

An intimate evening with Justin Hayward, The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury Step back in time with Justin Hayward - the legendary voice of The Moody Blues - who performs songs from his new album, as well as some of the greatest hits of the Moody Blues in an acoustic setting. One for all those who had their heyday in the ‘70s.

From the Jam, The Marlowe Studio, The Friars, Canterbury Bruce Foxton and Russell Hastings perform their acoustic interpretations of The Jam’s classic back catalogue – including Town Called Malice, Going Underground and Down in the Tube Station at Midnight. Doors open 8pm

Classic Car Show and Vintage Fair, The Green, Bearsted Enjoy a glass of fizz while strolling around more than 200 vintage vehicles and


classic cars on display in the picturesque setting of Bearsted Green – a must for all motor enthusiasts. 11am – 4pm. Admission free.


July 22-26 War and Peace Revival, Folkestone Racecourse Step back in time and visit wartime Britain at this year’s War and Peace Revival. For five full days, thousands of military and civilian vehicles will gather at the racecourse, including tanks, artillery, armoured and amphibious vehicles, classic cars, Jeeps, bicycles and motorbikes, commercial vehicles and much more. There will be battle re- enactments, living history displays and a wealth of arena events, vintage fashions and the sights, songs and smells of wartime Britain. The Changeling Open Air Theatre - Dandelion Time, Charlton Lane, West Farleigh The gardens of Elmscroft will provide an atmospheric backdrop for one of two open-air productions this year from The Changeling Theatre Group - “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”. Starting at 5pm and on a Sunday, this is early enough for children and a fun introduction to the works of the Bard. July 23-August 2 Whitstable Oyster Festival It really wouldn’t be summer without joining the throngs of folk who head for Kent’s sunshine coast and the 10- day Oyster Festival. The festival kicks off with


camp that will make you think you really are back in wartime England, waiting for the scramble bell. New this year is a Weddings at War exhibition, while the Vintage Village returns with fashion, homeware and memorabilia. Entertainment in the Victory marquee brings wartime music and songs to life – and you can even learn to jive and rock’n’roll.


the traditional landing of the oysters after which visitors can eat their way through shoals of fish and shellfish, quaff plenty of locally- brewed beers and ales, and enjoy comedy and lively music at venues throughout this pretty seaside town. Now in its 29th year, the festival draws 80,000 people from all over the UK and Europe, so it’s an idea to leave the car at home and head to the town by train.


July 16, 17 & 18 The Wildlife Heritage Foundation, Big Cat Sanctuary, Smarden The foundation only opens its gates once a year to the general public so this is a rare chance to get close up and personal with more than 50 big cats, including tigers, lions, leopards and cheetahs. There will also be face painting, a bouncy castle, falconry display and arts and crafts stalls. Tickets must be reserved in advance via www.whf.org.uk or telephone 01233 771915 and


cost £10pp (under 5s free). It’s a great chance to see some of these magnificent animals and how they interact with the keepers. You’ll also be supporting the conservation work that they do. 11am-5pm (last entry 4pm).
