September 12 Will Adams Festival, Gillingham Park Will Adams is probably better known in Japan than his home town of Gillingham but once a year, locals remember the Naval officer who found himself living in the Far East after being shipwrecked in Japan in 1600. It was Adams who set up the first trading links between the two countries and this festival is a celebration of everything Japanese – including music, drama, food and drink. 11am to 5pm.
