Communication between any team is critical and for the Operations Team at Davidsons Chemist it is extensive. Operations Director and Superintendent Karen Gordon says, “It is our ethos that all communications are shared between the team so we are always fully aware of what’s going on across the company, with the benefit that each individual team member looks at different aspects of a situation allowing us to find an agreed solution to all issues.”

It was a double celebration for the team at the Davidsons Chemist at the Scottish Pharmacist
The operations team support all branch based teams to ensure delivery of high standards of patient care and customer service. Their achievements have been recognised and demonstrated by the eight GOOD judgments received over the last twelve months during their branch GPhC inspections.
The Operations Team is comprised of:
Karen Gordon – Operations Director and Superintendent Pharmacist
Marina McFarlane – Retail Operations Supervisor
Michelle Fettes – Support Manager
Yvonne Sime – Operational Support Advisor
Susan Duncan – Head Office Manager
Kirsten Taylor – Personnel Administrator and Deputy Office Manager
“Our Team was set up around a year ago. Myself as Superintendent Pharmacist and Operations Director needed to enhance the support provided to our branch teams – managers and support staff – to allow them to deal efficiently with the demands and increasing workload of the Scottish Pharmacy Contract, the GPhC Premises Standards, against the backdrop of ever increasing dispensing volumes,” Karen continues.
Although the Operations Team itself is a new development within the company, the staff within it have been working for Davidsons for a number of years with a combined service of 66 years.
The team have very much used the GPhC premises standards as a driver for operational improvements.
“In preparation for the new inspection process, we knew the key was to ensure that all staff in the branches were aware of the premises standards, the activity required to ensure that they are met, and what the inspection process will entail.
“First step in this process was for all branch staff to complete the Numark module on GPhC Standards. Whenever we ask staff to complete a Numark a module, we get them to complete a short online questionnaire to test knowledge and understanding. In this instance rather than just answering questions we used this exercise to check awareness/audit of certain requirements of the premises
