s the news broke that Professor Rose Marie Parr had been appointed as the Scottish Government’s

As Director of Pharmacy at NES, she was responsible for providing leadership, management and advice to the NES Board on all pharmacy educational matters. Professor Parr succeeds Professor Bill Scott, who retired on March 31, 2015. Professor Scott held the post of Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for 22 years and his leadership of the pharmacy profession in Scotland has been widely acknowledged by colleagues from


around the UK and Europe.


The Chief Pharmaceutical Officer’s primary role is to provide professional leadership to NHS pharmaceutical care in Scotland and policy lead for NHS pharmaceutical practice in the community, primary care, secondary care and public health.


Professor Rose Marie Parr says, “It is a tremendous honour to have been appointed Scotland’s Chief Pharmaceutical Officer, and it is a very proud moment in my professional career.


“This professional leadership role provides huge opportunities to drive forward further improvements in pharmaceutical care for patients, families and carers at the centre of the NHS in Scotland.
