Terri Prokash of Go-To Transport Understands the Secrets of Success
A
ccording to Terri Prokash, Vice President of Logistics at Go-To Transport, Inc., there are two important
strategies for success in the trucking industry: make sure that you never stop learning, and surround yourself with the best team possible.
“It’s all a matter of having the right people in place,” says Prokash, who has been running the logistics division at Go- To Transport, a longtime McLeod Software customer, since 2006. “My team is definitely what has made us so successful for all these years. We wouldn’t be anywhere without them.”
A 200-truck operation with a home office in Bay City, MI and terminals in Green Bay, WI and Romulus, MI, Go-To Transport thrives on its reputation as a reliable family- owned and family-oriented company. Initially known as Express Leasing, the company took on its current name in 2003, because, Prokash explains, “Everyone got tired of having to point out that we weren’t a leasing company.” Under its new name, Go-To Transport enjoyed even further growth and an even stronger reputation, culminating in a Carrier of the Year award from Walmart
in 2014. Through it all, though, Go-To Transport has kept its focus on what matters most: its people.
“I began as a customer service representative at Schneider, and worked my way up to becoming Director of Brokerage before making the move to Go-To,” Prokash states, indicating that she knows what it’s like to start at the bottom. “I still think of myself as just a small piece of the pie. Initially, I was in charge of brokerage and operations, but now I’m also involved in sales, collections, even the asset side of the business. I’m always learning, and that has made me into a more well-rounded employee.”
Prokash was asked if she’d be interested in starting a brokerage division at Go-To Transport by Gary Short, the company’s Vice President, and when she made the move, her department consisted of just her and her sister, who worked as the Office Manager. Now the Logistics division is composed of about 15 people, all of whom Prokash attributes to Go- To’s consistently smooth and efficient day-to- day operation. Prokash’s own
daughter is one of her strongest employees, she says, handling an average of 40-50 loads each day.
Terri Prokash emphasizes the great respect she has for the Short family, who have skillfully kept Go-To Transport running through many years, many economic climates, and one major name change. “I love working here,” she enthuses. “I love the family atmosphere of the place, and the way that each day is an education.”
That atmosphere, and that educational environment, will undoubtedly help to keep Go-To Transport rolling, and enjoying success, for years to come.
