native roundup WPCS shows support for charities
British Heart Foundation Cymru and Cancer Research UK benefit from Britain’s largest native-breed society
The President’s Auction following the Welsh Pony and Cob Society (WPCS) annual general meeting is one of the highlights of the year, as the outgoing President nominates a charity or charities to receive the donations from the auction.
Mr Edwin Prosser, WPCS President 2013-2014, chose local branches of the British Heart Foundation Cymru and Cancer Research UK to share the total of £4,100.17p raised at the dinner-dance held in Cardiff last April and presented the monies on 25th February this year at the WPCS headquarters in Bronaeron, West Wales.
Mrs Neris Lloyd, Chairman of the Aberaeron Fundraising Branch of Cancer Research UK, received the cheque, commenting “It was a privilege to accept the fantastic donation of £2,050.09p from the WPCS. My thanks to all who worked hard and contributed to raise money to such a worthy cause.”
Mrs Jayne Lewis, Fundraising Volunteer Manager Mid & West Wales for the British Heart Foundation (BHF Cymru), added “I would like to thank Mr Prosser for choosing BHF Cymru, as well as everyone who supported and contributed funds. Thank you for this considerable donation, which is very much appreciated.”
Past President Edwin Prosser said that he had chosen these two charities due to the number of people, including him and family members, whose lives have been affected by heart disease or cancer. He said “This money was raised by the generosity of WPCS members and friends at the 2014 AGM, and I am delighted to be able to present these cheques to BHF Cymru and Cancer Research UK.”
Included in the charitable aims of the WPCS, itself a registered charity and a member of the National Equine Welfare Council, are the welfare of ponies and cobs, and educational activities such as visits to equine and agricultural colleges.
