tried ‘n’ tested Mark Todd –

The company says: Made from Coolmax fabric that has temperature control and wicking properties, making these breeches perfect for the active equestrian. Features include silicone grip knee patches, sock angle, belt loops and the famous Mark Todd signature. White, Navy, Beige or Grey. Sizes: Ladies 24” to 34” / Mens 28” to 38”. RRP: Ladies £89.99 / Mens £99.99 www.wefi.co.uk

Our tester, Pam Harrison, says: My first thought was that the silicone knee patches would ‘peel off’ after minimal use, as they look, well superficial somehow, but not at all! These are ‘high-tech’ breeches and very practical with it. An excellent fit, they are both lightweight and very comfortable, providing confidence-giving grip when in the saddle. Definitely for summer use, they are just a bit ‘too cool’ for this time of year, but will be a fabulous addition to any rider’s wardrobe as you can almost forget you have them on. Equally good for schooling and competition.

Full Seat Breeches The company says: Made from a very stretchy and comfortable fabric making them ideal for everyday or competition wear. Conventional waist with zip. Front zip pocket and rear pockets. Leather-look seat. Silver stitch detail. Belt loops. Close fitting ankle detail. Beige, Brown, Navy and White. RRP: £49.00 www.justtogs.co.uk

Our tester, Clare Chappelhow, says: I was really looking forward to trying these breeches but was left a little disappointed. Why? Well, when I initially tried them on they were wrinkled on my legs a little like Nora Batty’s stockings, plus were very loose around the knee. I wondered if a size less would suit, but upon checking this out, found that I was in the smallest ladies size available. I also noticed in their photos of the breeches that they were loose around the knee on their model too, thank goodness it was not just me! Otherwise they were comfy. I did like the style and material they are made in and they have washed well, but I will be using them as work breeches rather than competition ones as I like breeches that complement the figure rather than the other way . They are just not for me but as we come in all different shapes and sizes they may be ok for you!

www.theequinesite.co.uk WIN a Thermatex SHR rug! Thermatex rugs are very versatile;

not only are they extremely effective for cooling a hot horse down, they are also ideal for use as a day/travel/show rug.

The Science bit - Thermatex SHR rugs are constructed using three layers of fabric; natural wool, acrylic and a middle layer of polypropylene (the latter provides essential warmth). The fabric will actively draw away any

excess moisture before releasing it into the atmosphere, thus helping your horse regain normal body temperature. During this process the knitted fibres will gently relax and interlock with the coat, allowing the rug to mould perfectly around the shape of the horse. Your horse will instantly feel the benefit of this technical rug by staying warm and totally comfortable. The SHR is available in a choice of 22 colours and 19 binding colour options and cost £148.00 - your prize rug will be made to order so make sure you state your chosen colour scheme and size (5’9 – 7.3’) on your entry.

EVO-FLEX Body Protector The company says: Extremely light weight and superbly flexible, and incorporating Cut-Flex® and HingeTek® technologies to maximise flexibility and allow the bottom of the protector to mould into the nape of the back for unparalleled comfort and fit when in the saddle. Sizes: from XS Child to XL Adult. RRP: £63.95 - £121.95 depending on size. www.championhats.co.uk

Our tester, John Collier, says: More a name associated with hats rather than body protectors, this is a tabard type so no problems holding my breath trying to get a zip started! Easy to put on and as a result tended to wear it more often. Good length of back offering good protection, but had no problems with it catching the saddle in use. Two major points, it is a level 3, so meets the highest test standard and it has a stay fresh breathable lining so it doesn’t have an odour problem with continued use. I have used it for fast work, and hacking out young horses. It is not restrictive and the easy fit makes it time saving. I’ve grown quite fond of it and find I’m wearing it more often. I’ve also loaned it out to a couple of clients on lessons and it has made a good impression with them. If you’re in the market for a safe, sensibly priced, body protector then you cannot go wrong with this.
