Euro-Star – Barbury Performance Glove

RECOMMENDED

The company says: Fashionable and functional made of high elastic, breathable microfibre pique with white collar and white button stand. Elegant crystal buttons and fine piping around the collar and button stay. White, Taupe, Sky, Strong Blue, Navy and Rose Blush. Sizes: XS-XL. RRP: around £52.00 www.euro-star.de

Our tester, Claire Paisley, says: This shirt is a great addition to any competition wardrobe! I have tested it for a few weeks now and it is super comfy. Short sleeve and a close fitting style, the stretchy fabric allows ease of movement underneath your show jacket. I found it was breathable and it seems to wash well at 40 degrees. On first inspection, I wasn’t so sure, as it has transparent yet glitter filled buttons down the front! However, they have grown on me and, in fact, they are stylish but not too bling for those of us who are partial to plain shirts. I particularly liked the piped edging round the collar and popper fastening – again it makes the shirt stand out against similar garments. It was a pleasure to test.

Equetech – Bespoke Cross Country Shirt

RECOMMENDED HIGHLY

The company says: Designed through the ‘Design Lab’ online and offering a bespoke shirt with a difference! Simple and easy to use, create your own perfect shirt and with Custom Hat Silks also available, you can invent a very personal and stylish look, which will certainly stand out for all the right reasons this coming season! RRP: Shirt: from £39.95 for Unisex (Men’s, Women’s & Junior sizing also available) Hat Silks: £9.50 www.equetech.com

Our tester, Rachel Thomas, says: The first thing that struck me was how smart this was. The colours are lovely, it looked fantastic, plus my 13 year old niece loved it and wants one made to order for herself - they would make great presents. Back to the practicalities, it is extremely good as an XC shirt. It was nicely fitted without having that feeling of being ‘sucked in’! Not bulky, so great for wearing it underneath a body protector. Very breathable which is always good for XC riding, also I like to have my arms covered for cross country, and even on the hottest of days I imagine this wouldn’t cook you and make you feel faint! Very light and flexible, washes well, and very comfortable. I would highly recommend it.

Champion – Ventair Hat

The company says: A low-profile, modern and lightweight hat with a glass fibre shell covered in soft and durable synthetic nubuck. Extremely lightweight and comfortable featuring a design-registered, ventilated airflow system with an eye catching silver finish, which is styled to increase airflow and help keep your head cool. The harness is soft padded synthetic nubuck with a rear drawstring and incorporates a quick release buckle for ease of use. Complying to PAS 015 2011, and the BSI Kitemark, with each batch produced at the Champion factory in Cardiff passing the BSI’s rigorous testing system. Black, and Navy. Sizes: 6¼ - 7¾. RRP: £103.75 - £124.50 depending on size. www.championhats.co.uk

Our tester, Peter Bulman, says: What a well-made and well finished hat this is. It fits snugly, now that I have the correct size that is (a size larger was needed), and it does not feel at all heavy. I found no problem whilst wearing it for hours and did not experience a hot and/or damp head, although it is not the time of year that is best to test for this. On the other hand, (well head really) it was not cold either when wearing it despite the bitter weather. The claimed protection level has not been tested as yet, thankfully, so I’ll trust in the ‘kite mark’ awarded to it. Cannot find anything at all to criticise.
