Cat injured by ‘barbaric’ snare

THE RSPCA is appealing for information after a young cat got her leg caught in a metal snare and narrowly avoided losing the limb. Aqua, a female tortoiseshell thought to be about a year old, was found by a hedge in a front garden in Marshall Gardens, Hadlow by a passer-by. Her left back legwas caught in the

trap, and when the jaw of the trap was released, the cat tried to run away, but could only drag her leg. She was taken to a vet where she

was treated for an infected wound. At first it was feared that the leg might have to be amputated, but after making steady progress, itwas now hoped that this could be avoided.

Meanwhile, Aqua is in RSPCA

care after her owners said they could not afford the veterinary bills. RSPCA inspector Andrew Kirby

said: “I can’t imagine the amount of pain and distress this poor cat must have felt while she was caught in this trap. Thewoundon her leg is re- ally nasty and needs a lot of treat-

ment but it was at first feared to be worse – we thought she’d have to have it amputated. Luckily she is making steady progress, so it is hoped this can be avoided. “Wedo notknowwhoset this trap

or why, but urge people to be aware how dangerous they can be for pets and wildlife. These traps can pose a huge danger to both wild and do- mestic animals. “We’re keen to hear from anyone

who may have information about who might once have owned the trap, or placed it there. Call us on 0300 123 3018.” The RSPCA is against the use of

any trap or snare that causes suffer- ing.

News Cabins plan withdrawn

A PLAN to extend a holiday home park in East Malling has been withdrawn. Gary Haffenden wanted to add eight log cabins at Heath Park, which

already has permission for 10 units. The properties would have been located beside an extension to the ex-

isting road through the site and would have been fitted with verandas, decking, lighting and drainage. Concerns were raised by East Malling and Larkfield Parish Council that

the scheme would result in overdevelopment of the countryside. Another site for 20 log cabins is a short distance away inWateringbury Road. A Tonbridge and Malling Council report advised councillors to refuse the

proposal but itwas formally withdrawn byMr Haffenden before being con- sidered by the planning committee.
