Gap forming technology raises containerboard speeds in China
C
hinese containerboard manufacturer Anhui Shanying Paper Industry has updated
its operati ons to adopt the latest gap forming technology with the successful start-up of two machines, PM5 and PM6, at its Ma’anshan mill in Anhui Province. Typical of the smooth
commissioning process was that the PM6 machine averaged 1,398 m/min for 24 hours just 12 days aft er the start-up. “The Valmet board machine
is very well equipped and has fi rst-class performance,” said PM6 producti on manager Wang. “Our start-up has been very smooth. Valmet and Shanying have arranged targeted board machine training for the operators, which is also of great help for us.”
January/February 2015
Mark Singler, director of
process technology at Valmet, explained the signifi cance of the installati ons. “Making lightweight containerboard using gap forming technology is new for Chinese containerboard makers,” he said. “The most effi cient European containerboard lines, making high quality lightweight end products, uti lize gap forming concepts with excellent results. Now Anhui Shanying has taken this step with Valmet’s technology and we are very pleased to cooperate with this forward-looking company.” The PM6 producti on line included a complete 8.60m wire width containerboard machine, from headbox to winder. The delivery also included machine clothing and a wide range of process systems. The new PM6 is equipped
with a gap forming technology called Opti Former Gap, which enables a higher producti on speed for lightweight, high quality containerboard making. The producti on line also includes two winders. PM6 produces fl uti ng and testliner grades in the basis weight range of 50 -110 g/m2
and
with design producti on speed of 1,500 m/min. The PM5 producti on line included a complete boardmaking line from headbox to reel with chemical systems, winder and roll handling equipment. It is
equipped with three headboxes, a multi -Fourdrinier forming secti on, centre roll -based press secti on, sizing with fi lm applicati on as well as hard nip calender. The producti on line is completed with two-drum winder. The delivery also included machine clothing and a wide range of process systems. With a reel width of 7.92m the PM5 line produces recycled testliner and kraft top liner grades in a basis weight range from 90 to 175 g/m2
with a design speed of 1,200 m/min.
