Valmet expands its process automation business
M
etso’s Process Automati on Systems business is to be acquired by
Valmet with completi on expected by the end April. Metso’s operati ons, which
are valued at €340 million, supply process automati on and informati on management systems along with related applicati ons and services to the pulp, paper, energy and other process industries. The business had sales of €300 million in 2013 and employs 1,600 staff .
About 80 percent of Process
Automati on Systems sales comes from Valmet’s current customer industries and the remainder from other process industry clients. Valmet says the business being acquired is strong, with established customer relati ons and a high level of technology and know-how. The share of services business in the acquired business is signifi cant, accounti ng for approximately 45 percent of net sales in 2013, and is based on large installed automati on base and a capti ve business model. The acquired business has a good fi nancial track record and stable cash fl ow.
Of Process Automati on Systems sales, Valmet has accounted for around 10 percent. The acquisiti on increases the share of stable high- margin business of Valmet’s net sales by about €270 million. Pasi Laine, chief executi ve
