PARIS TO THE MAX by paris sukomi max
BONJOUR, ALL YOU LOVE SLAVES! It’s that time of year when those heart-tipped arrows fly and seem to be more relevant than usual. Be it, for those whom the arrow has already struck and are searching for a way to keep love fresh, or those leaping into the path of “love’s arrow” in the hopes that special someone might come your way. Maybe, you’re just ducking and running for cover in the hopes of avoiding the sting... entirely.
Sometimes, we face this time of year with a little negativity, i.e., “single awareness month,” or “I show my love everyday of the year and shouldn’t conform to a holiday created by the greeting card industry,” or even, “Isn’t this like a religious thing? I think I’ll be an atheist on the 14th.” Lol. If the humor you create around the day makes you smile and gets you through, (including the facebook photo you post of your oh-so-single hand, clutching a glass of wine, the TV on, showing a scene from Serendipity) and a caption, “best date ever, #singleawarenessday, #iloveme, #memyselfandi” isn’t enough for you, then call me your “Kind-a-Sort-a-Cupid!” Enjoy the day as I do. Just “L-O-V-E.” Nothing can make my cherubic wings flutter like crazy, than pointing you toward a bowful of fun things to do... be they with your love, your friends, your lust or by yourself. Or, I might just point you to a few places where the booze will be flowing, to help erase your lovesick mind and heart, like shaking an “etch-a-sketch”. Stepping out beyond our beloved University
Avenue “strip,” I love The Prado Restaurant in Balboa Park for Sangria Sundays ($12 pitchers = awesome!). For Valentine’s Day, Chef Jonathon has a three-course menu for just $64.95 per person, making it an easy and heartfelt invita- tion for singles, couples (bleh) and groups. The menu selections include one of my absolute fa- vorite entrees, the Red Wine Braised Beef Short Ribs (perfect for those hungry, heavy drinkers, if you know what I mean). At Lips San Diego on El Cajon Boulevard,
we have the annual “VD Prom” (pun, totally in- tended). A three-course dinner special with two seatings at 5 and 8 p.m., the evening features one of Lips fabulous love-filled shows. I highly recommend that you try their super-special Oysters Rockefeller… ‘cuz, everyone’s drive needs a little boost sometimes! On that same night, look for the launch of Lips revamped third midnight show called, “Taboo,” for those of you feeling a little naughty. Swing by Urban MO’s for Drop In My Box

Valentine’s Party, a flirty gathering with DJ Ron spinning, with the sexy Nick De Marco as host, there to help connect hot singles (or maybe even couples looking for a third)! Featur- ing “Cupid’s Arrow” $2 Svedka shots and much, much more. By the way, if you didn’t know, it is an Urban MO’s custom and a sign of great respect to rub Mike Monson’s, Gouda’s or Clay’s
head when you see them. For love a little south of the border, Baja Bet-
ty’s is hosting the Heartbreaker’s Valentine’s GRINDR Party in the Cabana Lounge. The night features raffles, giveaways, $2 Avion shots and drink specials, with a tray pass full of delicious eats. You might want to make sure your phone is nice and charged up for this one… and on vibrate for that little added bonus. Aside from Valentine’s Day, I would like to give a special shout out to my sister, the diva and the madness that is Glitz Glamour, who hosts the absolutely outrageous, “free yourself, live life to the fullest,” diva event, Freak Friday each month at Urban MO’s. This one lands on Friday, February 27 and proves once again, that “the sky is never the limit.” Let your imagination run wild and remember what they say, “There’s never a cover and it’s always a freakshow.” Uptown Tavern is a great choice for sexy ambience and will be offering a romantic prix fixe Valentine’s Day Dinner menu, with wine pairings and a Red Velvet Martini special. Or, follow in my stiletto steps and order their Bacon and Potato Flat Bread with Eggs!!! Sounds crazy, but your tummy will be singing “Praise Paris” later on. Not ready to go home yet or just leaving the
pre-party? Well then, see and be seen at Rich’s San Diego for Voltage: Valentine’s Day Edi- tion with one of my favorite DJs, Dirty Kurty. Colored hearts on the dance floor will tell you if someone is single, taken, or taken and look- ing, so you can save some time and not have to stalk them on facebook! Try Rich’s blended, Forbidden Jungle Juice and I’ll guarantee that everyone there will be “hot,” at least for the time being. If you see me there, say “Hey, girl heyyy” and let’s do a shot! See, my babies, no matter where you go, what
you do, or “who” you do... make the day yours! Everyone wants to love and be loved, but one of the greatest pleasures in life you’ll find is that you already are. Don’t forget that some hearts are more fragile than others during this season of love. I hope you keep in mind that, “though it’s nice to be important, it’s more important to be nice.”
