Margaret’s Street, just a stone’s throw from the beautiful cathedral, has been welcoming visitors since 1988. It provides an excellent introduction to the historic city and its famous literary connection as well as being a hugely entertaining and enjoyable experience for the whole family. Chaucer’s famous pilgrims set out


from a Southwark hostelry to travel to Canterbury to pray at the shrine of St


Church, this stunningly accurate recreation of 14th century medieval England provides the backdrop for a journey of discovery. Aided by costumed characters and audio guides, your adventure will begin at the Tabard Inn, and continue through a series of rooms depicting tales and stages of the pilgrimage which ends at St Thomas Becket’s shrine.


A taste of history The Canterbury Tales has a well-stocked shop where you can purchase a memento of your visit or that perfect gift idea. There’s also a chance to try traditional


mead – one of the world’s oldest forms of alcoholic drink – before you buy. You can also discover the heraldry of


your own family for free, with the option to purchase your own coat of arms.
