Get Educated on Hormones

N

othing stays the same, I can accept that. What I am not will- ing to accept is that my body is going to break down and fall apart because “that is just how it is.” I could not disagree more with that idea. There is strong sci- ence that supports the fact that women can and are living healthy vital lives without feeling as if they are ‘losing it,’ aching all over, having no libido, losing their memory, gaining weight, and the hun- dreds of other deficiencies that seem to happen as time goes by. So, what is the secret to aging without losing your quality of

life? I believe it is a combination of preventative actions that must be taken to ensure good health; actions such has eating healthy whole foods, exercising, sleeping, eliminating toxins, and replacing depleted hormones. Our hormones govern every area of life and they get depleted

over time by the very important act of living. Add to that our hectic lives, eating foods laced with preservatives, antibiotics, and/ or chemicals, exposure to environmental toxins, and stress, all of which play a part in the depletion of our hormones.

What’s a girl to do?

The first step to take is to educate yourself. Find out hormones and the role they play in the body.

You need to have a basic understanding of DHEA,estrogens (es-

tradiol, estrone, estriol), testosterone, progesterone, progestin, corti- sol, TSH, T3, T4, and HGH. Once you have a basic understanding, ask your doctor to test your levels. Also ask for a saliva test, because traditional blood tests do not give you accurate readings for estro- gens. Once you have your results you are armed with information to make decisions. At this point you may need to find a doctor who specializes in hormone replacement with bio-identical hormones. Do not use any synthetic hormones; they have been proven through the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) studies to be very harmful to women.

What I have learned from my own experience is that you have

to be your own advocate and demand answers from your health professional. Synthetic drugs are not the answer and mother earth does provide what we need. If your hormones are not balanced neither are you.
