East Knoyle Fete 2014

Thanks largely to the generosity of the community in the village, we are proud to say we raised over £3400 at the fete – what a fantastic effort! Our thanks to Lizzie and Herve de la Moriniere who kindly let us use the lovely grounds of Knoyle Place, and thank you to everyone who came and supported us on the day.

We were blessed with good weather, despite an awful forecast earlier in the week, and the Community Choir opened the fete with a lively version of the Broadway song ‘The Rhythm of Life’. With a dog show, food, barbecue, beer, Pimms, wine, all the stalls and children’s games, and even a TV showing motor racing and tennis highlights, there was truly something for everyone!

The fete is an important event for our church because it raises essential funds which help to maintain our church, a Grade 1 listed building, in good repair. The church is a tangible part of our past and our heritage, and by preserving it and using it we are marking our respect for all those who have passed before us. In East Knoyle it is also an important link to the life and work of Sir Christopher Wren, whose father was Rector here when he was born, and who spent his early life as a child in our church and in our village.

Thank you everyone for a wonderful effort! Jill Hockham
