Page 5 News From The Parish Council
You may recall that in August 2013 there was a fly tipping incident on Wise Lane above Sandpit Hill. It is with great pleasure that I can report that following swift action and tenacious detective work on behalf of Parish Council members Deb Bateman and Paul Wharton a successful prosecution was made on the 30th June at Salisbury Magistrates Court. A Mr Lee Stickley of 10 Acres, Shaftesbury was fined £280 + £600 costs.
The timing of verge cutting has caused some consternation around the village and our attempts to preserve the wild flowers that grow in the verges have been only partially successful. Following three independent calls from concerned residents, one of whom had almost had an accident in Milton, the decision was made to ask Wiltshire Highways to cut the edges of the verges and the corners of junctions to improve visibility. There is a fine line to tread when trying to do the best for our wildlife and attempting to provide safe thoroughfares for our residents and the PC will continue to do our best to address both issues. Many thanks to Tommy Hall for the safety work he carried out at the Clouds crossroads recently.
The bench on the common land at Milton is in an advanced state of dilapidation and it is the intention of the PC to replace it. If there are any residents who would like to purchase a bench in commemora- tion of someone or something special, the Parish Council would be interested to hear from you.
Wiltshire Council is exploring the possibility of adding two bunga- lows to the village housing stock. These will be specifically built to house the elderly. If you currently live in a Council owned property and would be interested in moving to a property within the village that is smaller and more economic to run, then please register your interest with the Parish Council via the Clerk.
Kevin Stow.
The Parish Council wishes to thank Paul Naish for the splendid restoration work he has carried out on the three red phone boxes in the village, all look refreshed and renewed. Paul undertook this work of his own volition with the PC covering material costs.
