Page 13 NOTICE OF TREES THAT MAY BE FELLED

One of the special features of the East Knoyle Parish must be the woodlands and trees that make up the landscape and when, by chance, you hear that a stand of mature beech trees are to be felled, it is a cause for concern. Apparently a local resident has complained that the trees could be a danger. The landowner is Clouds Estate, who were advised to fell all the trees to avoid any liability. I wonder who gave them this advice, if the trees are in good health, why not just prune some of the branches over the lane? It sets an interesting precedent for landowners, including the Parish Council, because almost all the lanes, bridleways and footpaths are lined with trees and not just in this village! The trees in question are along the lane by The Fox & Hounds. There will be a picture on the website to show how these trees relate to The Green.

Clouds Estate has expressed concern about the

impact on the environment and it is understood now that only 10 of the trees are to be felled. This notice is to ensure that residents know about it before the chain saws arrive, then it will be too late.

There is no protection order on these trees and I wonder if this applies to other important trees in the Parish. In addition to the Parish Council, a useful contact for anyone who may be concerned is Wiltshire Council Tree Officer, Shane Verrion - shane.verrion@wiltshire.gov.uk
