Dade County Youth Fair Delighted Fairgoers Once Again!

This year marked the 63rd anniversary of the Youth

Fair which ran March 13 thru 30, and made it a point to celebrate with a bang by introducing all new live shows, musical performances, thrilling rides, unique food vendors and even hosting a Guinness world re- cord-setting event. Juicy’s Outlaw Grill owner, Brett Enright, victoriously claimed the world record for the largest commercially available hot dog on fairgrounds this year under the watchful eye of a distinguished witness panel, the emceeing prowess of DJ Monsta from Power 96, and hundreds of supporting onlookers. Among the official witnesses were Alex Capote, Dis- trict Sales Manager for Coca-Cola; Oscar A. Alvarez, Floor Manager for Esserman International Kia; Evan Benn, Food & Beer Editor for The Miami Herald; Ike Hilliard, former NFL player & current Wide Receiver Coach for Washington Redskins; Javier Herran,

Manager for Sedano’s Supermarkets; and Lonnie Law- rence, The Miami Coalition Chairman of the Board. The final meaty creation tipped the scale at 125.5 lbs., surpassing the original weight goal by more than 50 lbs. The mammoth hot dog was later portioned and sold to spectators for $1 a plate in benefit of the Mi- ami Rescue Mission; a Florida faith-based nonprofit that provides homeless men, women and children with food, shelter, substance abuse treatment, education, job placement and healthcare. As in previous years, there was a mouth-watering

assortment of foods and drinks to please any palate - from tzatziki-dripping Greek gyros to cilantro-bathed Mexican tacos, Hawaiian wok-fired soba noodles for the health conscious, and a saloon-inspired lounge for those looking to pamper their love of unique craft beer (flavors like watermelon and coconut),

ciders and

wine. The entertainment lineup was also a smashing hit with hundreds of thousands of fairgoers in atten- dance on concert dates. Among the most popular acts were Latin music duo Willy Chirino & Albita, high- energy Latin group Los 3 de la Habana and Timbalive, Christian contemporary artists Sonic Flood and Mat- thew West, “90’s Freestyle BlowOut” with Cynthia, Rockell, Noel & TKA, and the adrenaline-charged Su- perstars of Wrestling Live. Audiences were captivated by The Royal Hanneford

Circus, the daredevil stunts of The Nerveless Nocks, The Future of Magic and World Record Balloon Stunt show and Ma’Ceo by Cavallo. In addition to the 93 electrifying amusement rides, carnival-style games and nearly 170 delectable food stands, some of the other fair highlights to note were the World of Agricul- ture, which hosted a fascinating display of farm ani- mals, horticulture, and new hands-on educational shows for children, including the incredibly popular Cowtown, where families were given to opportunity to

milk a cow, learn how to make butter, ice cream, soap and much more. “The staff, our 1,000 volunteers and the Board of

Directors are absolutely thrilled with the results of the 2014 Youth Fair,” said Bob Hohenstein, President and Chief Executive Officer. “By any measure one wants to use the recently concluded Youth Fair was a won- derful success. I know we brought smiles and laugh- ter to hundreds of thousands of families in our Miami- Dade community. We are indeed grateful for every- one’s kind support.” The Youth Fair featured more than 40,000 student

exhibits, Pre-K to12th grade, in Arnold Hall and in- cluded categories such as: landscape design and con- struction, photography, robotics, culinary arts,

fine

arts, graphic design and crafts. Many Community Stage performances also took place highlighting the many talents of our local students via fashion shows, school bands, magician acts, karate demonstrations and singing groups. The long-standing reputation for fun for all ages and

that unbeatable Miami flamboyance proved successful once again as the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair hosted nearly 590,000 fairgoers in 2014, a 2.5% in- crease from last year. The entertainment and fare, was as wondrously diverse as are the colorful resi- dents of this region. It is no surprise why South Flor- ida is home to one of the top fairs of its kind in the North America and the largest in the state of Florida. The 2015 Youth Fair is coming March 19, 2015… Be There!
