2014 Associate of the Year By Albert Montes Our fair family is composed of many valued members who

make significant contributions to our organizations. Tonight we recognize our associates and thank them because they are an integral part of what we do. Without them we simply could not function. To all the associates here in attendance we want you to know

how much we truly appreciate your time, effort, and dedication to our industry and our Federation. With that being said, we would like to honor and give a special

thank you to an individual who has truly been a key member of our fair family. This associate member is a person of many talents. He is an

entertainer, motivational speaker, comedian, and humorist as well as a Dale Carnegie instructor and leadership trainer. He has a dynamic style for blending humor and personal experiences that make him entertaining and motivational. His company is one of the largest full service entertainment

management companies and agencies in the industry. He has been providing quality entertainment for our Fairs for many, many years. From animal attractions to music, stunt and thrill shows, you name it they’ve got it. He is a native of North Carolina with a degree from NC State

University in Agricultural Education. He loves people and good clean humor. He has achieved plenty but he still is a down-to- earth country boy at heart. We are pleased and honored to recognize our 2014 Associate of the year, Bobby McLamb of Artists and Attractions.

2014 Hall of Fame Inductee The suspense builds, as usual, as Alta Mosley, last year’s Hall

of Fame recipient approached the podium to announce this year’s recipient. While she diligently tried to “keep it a secret,” it soon became evident that this year’ recipient was quite spe- cial. Doris has served for many years on the Board and as an officer

of the Citrus County Fair and is past president of the Federation of Fairs Board, as well as serving on the HPH Hospice Board. She has received recognition from her involvement in the local Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations.. In 2008 she received the IAFE Heritage Award in Las Vegas. She recently retired as a self employed printer and worked for

Florida House of Representatives Charles S. Dean – District 43. Now a Senator, Dean says “I can’t say enough about her com- mitment and enthusiasm for these organizations and I believe she truly deserves the recognition of receiving this prestigious award.” Another of her peers, Martha Leverock with the Greater Jack-

sonville Ag Fair says “I consider her to be an extremely honest, capable and dependable individual who sets the highest of stan- dards for herself and others.” Doris has proven to be one of those “leaders” that leads from

behind. She never seeks the limelight and is always in the back- ground.. She is one of the ones you can count on to fulfill what- ever task she is committed to – and to fulfill it well. From hold- ing offices to overseeing numerous Federation projects, updating the Federation History and having it published by Belle City Amusements is one of her greatest accomplishments. Lisa Hinton, Executive Director of the Federation says, “Doris

has been one of those people that is always available to assist and advise me with those aspects of the program where I lacked expertise. She gives untiringly of her time to assist with the newsletter and the directory, proofing, and any other task she is asked to help with.”

12 Family comes first and she is always there for them – her son

Glenn Corp, of Holiday, daughter Lane Marie Shaw, Lecanto, and granddaughter Jessica Courtney Shaw, a recent graduate of the Art Institute of Tampa.

Florida Federation of Fairs

Scholarships By Bill Olson Each year the Florida Federation of Fairs offers a schol- arship, that is sponsored by North American Midway Entertainment, for the IAFE Institute of Fair Man- agement program. In the past the scholarship was for $1000, to be used toward registration fees for the IAFE annual convention, the Institute of Fair management sum- mit or cyber seminars. This year the scholarship committee decided to change it up a bit, this year's recipient can use the funds for air-

fare, hotel and registration for the Institute of Fair Man- agement summit in Dallas Texas. We had many quality applicants apply for the scholarship and ultimately the scholarship was awarded to Miranda Muir from the Os- ceola County Fair and Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show. Miranda said that she was excited to learn that she won the scholarship and is looking forward to attending the Summit in October. In addition to the IFM Scholarship the Federation also

awarded three convention scholarships to YPI members and one convention scholarship to a small Fair that hasn't attended in the past three years. The YPI winners were: Reid Weber from the Osceola County Fair and Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show, John Holl also from the Osceola County Fair and Kissimmee Valley Livestock Show and Jessica Johnson from the St. Lucie County Fair. The scholarship for the Fair that had not attended in the past three years went to Marjorie Hynish from the Pinellas Country Fair. The federation is awarding scholarships for YPI mem-

bers to attend the summer workshop in West Palm Beach in early August. The scholarships will cover registration and hotel expenses, go to floridafairs.org to apply.
