“While many OEMs claim to already

have one to two years of development work alongside Apple and Google, neither solu- tion will reach $10 million in sales until 2017, due in part to the longer product cycles in automotive. Another reason is the incongruent cultures between an indus- try without safety critical components and one with a storied history of product safety recalls,” notes IHS Senior Analyst Mark Boyadjis, author of the report. If you add smartphone tethering and the integration of aftermarket apps into the head unit, the revenue generation forecast jumps as high as $20 billion by the end of 2018, according to Juniper Research in its whitepaper called, Con- nected Cars – Telematics at a Crossroads. Many of his customers are engi- neers from these companies, too. His shop currently sells and installs

and what’s to come. As a retailer, we don’t have a lot of say or a lot to do with engi- neering or the manufacturing. But we’re ready to support whatever equipment comes our way from the manufacturers,” said Landry, who also was named one of the nation’s top aftermarket installers by Mobile Electronics magazine in 2012. Organizations are working to keep

customers going to the aftermarket. According to the Auto Care Association,
