2014 FESTIVAL GUIDE

JULY 2014 WONDERLAND,

FESTIVAL 05 - 06

JELLY NORWICH Y

ou felt it, didn’t you? Like an ex-lover, or the post-season 8 comedown of Breaking Bad, you felt the aching void of the absence of Jelly Festival last year… but it’s BACK. After a break in 2013, its usual home of South Creake enjoys another fallow year,

and Jelly sets itself a new mould at Wonderland, in the heart of Norwich’s Riverside. After the Lord Mayor’s Procession has swept through the streets, the fireworks continue at Wonderland, with two nights of banging DJs and artists. Saturday sees Sigma, who have already dominated 2014 with their no. 1 single, ‘Nobody to Love’ take the stage, as well as Stanton Warriors, who tastemaker Annie Mac describes as “the kind of music that makes you literally want to go mental on the nearest dancefloor” – and a shiny shit load more from 10pm-4am. Sunday’s proceedings pick up the baton again from the Lord Mayor’s shindig, and is the perfect end to a weekend of revelry for Norwich’s party folk. Like taking a classic motor out for a spin, Sunday starts off steady – you’ll be supping down the half price Bloody Maries while heading off on a magic carpet ride with the more intelligent side of dance music, with the likes of Submotion Orchestra (always a festival fave), a Zero 7 DJ set, to name just a couple. At time of print, tickets are £13.50 / per day, or just £20 for the weekend, which is a tidy little price. radar since that incredible line-up in 2011 that boasted Prince, Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan, Morrissey and Patti Smith on the bill. Tat, potentially, was a stand out year where all the stars aligned, but even under new management, Hop Farm is again offering one of the classiest line-ups around, like every year. 2014 invites Grace Jones and the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson to the stage, which is worth your ticket money alone, with a wealth of good songwriters and musicians in support. It’s de riguer for festivals now, but it doesn’t mean it should be overlooked – Hop Farm casts its entertainment net wider with a comedy tent, featuring Jo Brand, Rich Hall and Russell Kane as headliners. Te other notable addition is the introduction of the Jazz & Blues lounge, cementing Hop Farm’s commitment to exquisitely crafted music. e’ve chosen another comeback story for this month’s festival guide – after 2013 being a festival-free year for the Hop Farm home, the much loved weekend is being rekindled by new promoters for 2014. It’s been a firm favourite on our
