t is with great plea- sure that we have upgraded our paper to a new look and feel for our readers, fans and sponsors throughout the world. We are excited to announce that even with this change, we will not increase any fees for advertising, except for subscrip- tions (mailing has in- creased 30%) or pub- lic relations articles, but instead offer more articles, events and feature stories about people in the county and around the planet. Our publication is growing because we still go see people in person and talk to them about their needs and dreams for suc- cess as individuals, proprietors and
organizations that help
others in the process of living their lives. Running a news- paper is somewhat like tend- ing a garden. We plant seeds, water them and watch them grow, day after day. But even more important, we continue to make the paper about you, and not a place where agendas, pol- itics and special interests come into play indirectly or subtly. Our motto, ‘No bad news is Good News’ lives Up to its reputation. Plus, we don’t take ourselves to seriously.

A linguistics professor was lecturing to his English class one
day. “In English,” he said, “A double negative forms a positive. In some languages, though, such as Russian, a double negative is still a negative. However, there is no language wherein a double positive can form a negative.”
What is the Upbeat Times
About? All of us. Young and old, rich or poor from what ever place you come from on Earth. Why do you pick this paper Up? What makes you go out of your way to send it to someone you know in Michi- gan, Canada, Africa, Vietnam or Russia? Why do you carry it in your suitcase across the globe? I know why. You enjoy life and you have not forgotten the young kid spirit is alive in you. You do it because we will put you in the paper and you will be able to say, ‘I was there having a Upbeat Time!’, thus inspiring others to do the same anywhere they are! With this new look you will see new additions in the next

upcoming months. Upbeat’s butterfly effect is like
this; Whatever we do, whenev- er we do it, it affects something else, somewhere. We may not see the effects at the moment, that day, week month or year... but down the road something that may have never happened without the change will now have a chance of happening. In the case of Upbeat, by making this change in look and style it becomes even more recogniz- able, memorable and possibly a template for a Upbeat Times franchise in the future. -May this issue find you well!
A voice from the back of the room piped up, “Yeah, right.”
Ideals are like stars: you will not succeed in touching them with your hands, but like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them you reach your destiny.
