Robert Accorsi, Sue Guyer, and Michael Accordino The Cooper Cup


President Mary-Beth Cooper celebrates with representatives of the Class of 2017, winners of the Cooper Cup. The Cooper Cup was awarded to the class with the most participation points earned when class members attended Inauguration week events. President Cooper presented first-year student Clayton Sleator (to the right of Cooper) with the Cup on Nov. 14, following the Naismith Original Rules Basketball Game, played this year by faculty, staff, and students during Inauguration Week festivities.


Excellence in Teaching Awards Presented to Faculty Members


SPRINGFIeLD COLLeGe faculty members Sue Guyer, Robert Accorsi, and Michael Accordino were recently honored with Excellence in Teaching Awards, presented annually to recognize the College’s best teachers. Recipients are nominated by current students, and an awards decision committee that is comprised of faculty members and students reviews the submitted materials and selects winners. Up to three awards may be given annually with each recipient being recognized with a plaque, a $250 grant, and his or her name added to a list of previous winners in the Richard B. Flynn Campus Union. Guyer, who has been teaching at Springfield College


since 2002, is currently an associate professor of exercise science and sport studies. Accordino has been a faculty member at the College since 1998 and currently serves as a professor of rehabilitation and disability studies. Accorsi began teaching at the College in 1990 and is one of the original professors for the Department of Sport Management and Recreation.


Delegation Visits Chinese Colleagues


In September, Anne Herzog, dean of the School of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies; Deb Alm, director of the Doggett International Center; and College Archivist Jeffrey Monseau visit Hong Kong Baptist University where they are hosted by Dr. Frank Fu G’73, DPE’75, former director of the Doggett International Center. They are pictured with alums Prof. Warman W. M. Cheng, Dr. Lobo H.T. Louie, Prof. Bik C. Chow, Prof. P.K. Chung, and Prof. Sui Yin Cheung, professors in the department of physical education at HKBU. The delegation updated the alumni on programs and changes at Springfield College and met with the International Programs Office to discuss student exchanges and study abroad opportunities. The visit to HKBU came on the heels of a trip to Beijing Sport University, where Herzog, Alm, and Monseau participated in the Second Forum and Celebration of the 60th Anniversary of BSU.


Springfield College Physician Assistant Program Produces Perfect Pass Rate


THe SPRINGFIeLD COLLeGe Physician Assistant (PA) Program had 100 percent of its 2013 graduates pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) in its first attempt to become certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. This marks the sixth-consecutive year that physician assistant graduates have earned a 100 percent pass rate on the national certifying exam for first-time takers. The Springfield College PA Program educates primary care physi- cian assistants eligible for employment in a wide variety of medical settings and specialties. This 27-month graduate program culminates in a master of science in physician assistant studies.


Springfield College Honored with 2013 Super 60 Award


SPRINGFIeLD COLLeGe was recently awarded an Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield’s (ACCGS) 2013 Super 60 Award; finishing first for revenue. The ACCGS Super 60 Award is presented annually to the top businesses in the region that continue to make signifi- cant contributions to the strength of the regional economy. By achieving Super 60 status, Springfield College is recog- nized for the role it has played throughout the last year in the overall economic climate for the Pioneer Valley. “Springfield College is proud of its leadership position in


the Springfield community in both business and educa- tional settings,” said Springfield College President Mary-Beth A. Cooper. “Approximately 2,000 students live on our campus, and we are one of the region’s largest employers, with almost 700 employees. Our students and staff members add to the economy by dining in local restaurants and purchasing goods and services from local businesses. The College also attracts thousands of visitors to the region each year by hosting many educational, athletic, and cultural events.”
