In Memoriam 1938
David Ward Jr., Fairhaven, Mass., Aug. 13, 2013. Ward served in the U.S. Navy during World War II at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Boston before teaching physical educa- tion at Braintree (Mass.) High School, and eventually becoming the director of the Audio-Visual Department in the Braintree Public School System. He also founded and directed Camp Sea Space and the Sea Space Sailing School. Ward is survived by four children, 18 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
1942
Florian J. Beiseigel Jr., Annapolis, Md., Aug. 23, 2013. Beiseigel served as a first lieu- tenant during World War II with the Army Air Corps where he earned numerous service medals. He spent his professional career working with the U.S. Public Health Service in New York City where he was the director of the physical therapy clinic. He is survived by his two daughters.
1944
R. William Kalbaugh, Elmira, N.Y., Sept. 14, 2013. Kalbaugh was a two-sport athlete (basket- ball and baseball) at Springfield College and was recruited into the Brooklyn Dodgers organiza- tion before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then went on to coach and teach at the high school level and spent 34 years teaching and coaching baseball at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he was inducted into its athletic hall of fame. Kalbaugh is survived by his wife Margaret, a sister, two children, and four grandchildren.
James C. Luitweiler, Buckingham, Pa., Sept. 6, 2013. Lutweiler served in World War II with the U.S. Army. He worked as a woodworker and elementary school teacher. He is survived by his two children, four grandchil- dren, and two great-grandchil- dren.

Robert Louis Hazen (G’49), Nov. 8, 2013. Hazen served in the Army Air Corps as a cadet, and received his wings and commission as a lieutenant in 1944. He taught in Cornish, Maine, and Sayville, Long Island, N.Y. He is survived by his wife May Louise, children, and grandchildren.
1949
George E. Ulman, Fort Meyers, Fla., May 21, 2013. Ulman was a retired teacher and soccer coach. He is survived by his two children and grandson.
1950
Harry G. Bayliss, Worcester, Mass., Sept. 25, 2013. Bayliss had a long, prosperous professional career in banking with Mechanics Bank where he eventually rose to the position of CEO. He is survived by his brother, three children, and grandchildren.
Charles “Gil” Bullock, Escondido, Calif., Sept. 18, 2013. Bullock served in the U.S. Army. He became the athletic and program director at the Bristol (Conn.) Boys’ Club before his long career in insurance. His time with the Hartford Insurance Group took he and his family to Ohio, and then California where he opened his own insurance agency in La Jolla. While getting up and starting, Bullock drove a taxicab at night in addition to working his insurance job during the day. He competed in the Senior Olympics and continued his swimming until he was 85. Bullock is survived by his wife Dottie, two daughters, a granddaughter, and three grand- sons.
Cornelius A. Cummiskey, Warwick, R.I., Sept. 9, 2013. Cummiskey was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He spent 33 years as a history teacher and guidance counselor in the West Warwick (R.I.) School System. He is survived by his wife Corrine, a sister, three children, 10 grand- children, and one great-grandson.

John W. Fisher, Warwick, R.I., Sept. 30, 3013. Fisher was a Korean War veteran. He worked as a director at various YMCAs including stops in Orange and Somerville, N.J., Fall River, Mass., and New Britain, Conn. He served for 10 years as the director of the New Britain Senior Center. He is survived by his brother, two chil- dren, grandchildren and a great- grandson.
Alfred A. Lorenzetti, Bristol, Conn., Aug. 22, 2013. Lorenzetti was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and spent his career as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in Connecticut school systems. He is survived by his wife Jennie, two siblings, three children, eight grandchil- dren, and four great-grandchil- dren.
Sidney James Partington (G’52), Newington, Conn., Oct. 11, 2013. Partington served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He taught American History in the Hartford (Conn.) Public School System for 31 years. He was a tennis player and one of the origi- nal members of the Newington Tennis Club. Partington is survived by his wife Pat and his children.

William G. Anderson, Aiken, S.C., Sept. 22, 2013. Anderson served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years before going to back to school to eventually earn a doctor of education and serve as princi- pal of Pomona Junior High School. He is survived by his two sons and five grandchildren.
Charles L. Hanscomb, Naples, Fla., Oct. 18, 2013. Hanscomb was a Korean War veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He worked with various YMCA groups and was the director of Camp Fuller in Wakefield, R.I., and Camp Jewell in Colebrook, Conn. He also was the executive director of the New Britain (Conn.) YMCA and Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA in Maryland.
1952
James E. Torpey (G’53), Corvallis, Ore., Aug. 20, 2013. Torpey served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in New Guinea during World War II. He lived a very active life in Oregon where he was a professor at Oregon State University. Torpey is survived by his wife Dorothy, six children, two grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren.
1953
Harold Aloian, Oct. 18, 2013. Aloian served in the U.S. Air Force in the 67th Anti-aircraft Artillery in Fort Bliss, Texas. He worked in the Niagara Falls (N.Y.) School System for 31 years in numerous roles including physical education teacher, counselor, and adult education teacher. In addition, he served as an assistant football coach and varsity basketball coach at the former LaSalle High School. Aloian is survived by his wife Barbara, two children, grandchildren, and a sister.
Robert S. Goodwin, Charlotte, Vt., Nov. 11, 2013. Goodwin taught at Port Washington High School and coached varsity soccer and track teams. In 1963, he started coaching soccer and track at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. He retired in 1990 and moved to Charlotte, Vt., where he was an active sailor in the Lake Champlain Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife Beverly, children, and grandchildren.
