Mission Viejo, Calif., held Aug. 7-11, 2013. He won national championships in the men’s 70- 74 age group for the 200- and 400-meter individual medleys, as well as finishing second in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and third in the 200 backstroke.


Edward Sullivan retired as executive vice president for the United Methodist Children’s Home after 35 years of service, and then retired from retire- ment the next day to spend 11 years conducting accreditation reviews of programs at military installations around the world, as well as at human service organizations throughout the United States and Canada. Says Sullivan, “Thank you Springfield College for preparing and launching me on my career path!”

Bob Fox shared an article writ- ten for the Cape Cod Online enti- tled “Skip Daley still defines Brewster.” Walter Ralph “Skip” Daley ’64 died in combat during the Vietnam War with the rank of first lieutenant.


Daniel Purushotham (G) received an Anchor Award, presented by the University of Hartford Alumni Association, in October 2013. The Anchor Award recognizes UHart alumni who have distinguished them- selves by achieving impressive professional accomplishments and display the integrity and character that positively reflects the university.

G. Alan Putz (G’74) was inducted as part of the inaugu- ral class into the Rockville


(Conn.) High School Hall of Fame.


1971


Wendy Kaggerud retired in March 2013 after 30 years as a midwife. She married Joe Fitzgerald in May 2013 and is now happily hiking and skiing in Taos, N.M.


Lawrence Libow wrote in to share that he is the president of the Massachusetts Senior Games. Libow also mentioned that the late John Neumann ’51, G’57, former acting director and assistant director for the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, was at one time the national board of directors and the National Senior Games Committee, to both of which he was elected chair.


Gary A. Shiffrin retired from a 42-year career in education as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and middle school and high school principal in Florida.


1973


Stanley Battle has been appointed as a professor of social work at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn.


1973 Frank Fu (G), former director of the Doggett International Center, takes a moment with Director of Alumni Relations Tamie Kidess Lucey ’81, G’82. Tamie’s father, Ted Kidess G’35, DPE’58, is the founder of the International Center.


Nancy (Maltese) Pollock retired from the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts after spending 35 years working for various Girl Scout councils throughout the country.


Russell (G’77) and Laurel (Ford) Smith celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Nov. 24, 2013. They met as first-year students at Gulick Hall, which had just opened in September 1969.


Richard Wurster and the late William R. Scott ’35 and Richard L. Thomas ’51 were inducted into the Ballston Spa (N.Y.) Athletics Hall of Fame on May 13, 2013.

David B. Borofsky (G ’75) was formally inaugurated as the 22nd president of Dakota State University on Sept. 27, 2013.
