Young Alumna Award Erin Pac Blumert ’03


erin Pac took up bobsledding after Jim Pennington, her track and field coach, urged her to try out for a women’s national bobsled team in 2002. She first served as a brake- woman, making her driving debut in the 2006-2007 World Cup. In 2010, she took the bronze medal in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. She is as an advanced behavioral therapist at STAR in Santa Barbara, Calif., providing direct services using applied behavioral analysis methods to children living with autism and related disor- ders. Prior to her time at STAR, Blumert worked with individuals with developmental disabilities at the Center for Child Development in Milford, Conn., and at the Farmington Valley Association for Retarded and Handicapped (FAVARH) in Avon, Conn. Blumert was inducted into the Springfield College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.

Distinguished Alumnus Award Peter G. Helie ’72


Peter Helie entered the real estate world after college and, from 1976 to 1997, was employed by William Pitt Real estate. He began as a sales manager, and became general sales manager, vice president, presi- dent, and then partner. In 1995, he was named the Genesis Relocation and Real estate Services Broker of the Year. From 1997 to 2013, Helie served as the Prudential Connecticut Realty chairman and CeO. As a result of his leadership and philanthropic efforts, Helie was named the 2000 Broker of the Year by Prudential Real estate and Relocation Services. Helie has served on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford, Conn., the Chase Mortgage advisory board, the Stanwich Club Board, and as president of the Weston Gun Club.


Distinguished Alumna Award Phyllis K. Lerner ’71


Phyllis Lerner began as a K-12 physical education teacher. Her influence in the world of education and equality led her to become the field service consultant for the California State Department of education’s Title IX Office, and a national trainer for Gender/ethnic expectations and Student Achievement. She became a program specialist at the educational equity Center of the Los Angeles County Office of education. Her advocacy work continued as she took on the role of hurricane relief project coordi- nator for the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and public policy officer for the Women’s Sports Foundation. Lerner is a faculty associate for the Johns Hopkins University Graduate School of education, and its national partnership with Teach For America. She also is a consultant for the Mid-Atlantic equity Consortium.
