ALAN Totham, the chairman of Snodland Chamber of Commerce, who was a member of the team running Town Talk and the Snod- land Festival, has resigned as chairman and as amember of the committee. Alan, who runs Home & Hobby DIY in Malling Road with his wife, Penny, told Town Talk: “I have been proud to have been the chair of the Snodland Chamber of Commerce com- mittee for the past 13 years. During this time we have undertaken many successful initia- tives and events that I hope have brought Snodland businesses and the chamber to the attention of the local community. “My involvement with Town Talk and the
three very successful music festivals are par- ticular highlights, as well as representing the chamber in various discussions with local and borough councils. “Although I will no longer be involved with the committee I will still support the chamber through my business and Iwish my successor and the committee every success in continu- ing to represent and promote our town’s traders.” The secretary of the chamber, Robert Beswarick, said Alan had given of his time over many years andwas instrumental in resurrect- ing the chamber in the late 1990s. “He has overseen a number of initiatives to

generate public interest in local shopping and to support local businesses,” he added. “The chamberwill be sad to lose such a valu-
able member as chairman and is looking for a suitable replacement.We wish Alan well.” Anne Moloney, chairman of Snodland Town Council, said: “Alan has been a great ambas- sador for both the business community and for the town,” she said. “His contribution has been invaluable and
we look forward to him continuing to play a vi- brant role in the community.” The chamber’s annual meeting will take
place at the Monks Head pube at 6pm on March 18.

A SECRET Garden – which is really not so secret! – has been built in Snodland. The garden is on Network
Road, St Katherine’s Primary School (2nd) and Harriet Vinten, aged three, of Hammonds Square, Devonshire Rooms Pre- School (3rd).

It has been prepared by volun- teers from Network Rail, Action with Communities in Rural Kent, the Department for Trans- port and Smurfit Kappa Townsend Hook. Rebecca Lawford, the com- munity development officer for Moat Housing Association, said the association wanted to attract the wider community in Snodland. “We need people who are interested in maintaining a bed or are inter- ested in being part of the committee,” she said.
