Dynamic Business AWARD Winner: Xtrac

Making it a night to remember was the team from Xtrac as the company returned to the stage once more to celebrate adding the Dynamic Business Awards title to its trophy cabinet alongside the award for Best Use of Technology.
Sponsored by Deloitte Private Markets, this award puts the spotlight on businesses who demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and positivity in the way they interact with customers, suppliers and employees.
The category was hotly contested, with six finalists all staking a strong claim to the title and the audience was told that the judges considered each to be very dynamic in its own way.
About Xtrac however, they said: “The winner operates in a highly dynamic market and has demonstrated innovation across the business – in its management, ownership, new product development and in customer relationships – in order to retain its position as the number one in the world. This ambition has really come to life in the organisation’s forward- thinking approach to employee motivation and retention, which has ensured continued access to the best talent in the field.”
Xtrac is a world leader in the motorsport arena, designing and manufacturing transmission systems, and has an award-winning factory at its Thatcham base.
Managing director Peter Digby collected the award from Mike Thorne, head of Thames

Valley private markets at Deloitte, and paid tribute to the team’s hard work and expertise which, he said, had kept them ahead of the competition.
Speaking afterwards, he said: “Each year we export up to 70% of our turnover, totalling over $600 million since the company started. In 1997 I led a management buyout involving all the management and workforce who today still represent 100% of the shareholders through the Xtrac Employee Benefit Trust, of which we are all very proud, and I am sure that contributed to us winning the Deloitte sponsored Thames Valley Business Award Dynamic Business Award.”
The company is proud of its close links with the local community, including Newbury College, and regularly hosts visits by local schoolchildren. Its successful Apprenticeship and Graduate Programmes have seen more than 100 young people become valuable and highly-skilled members of the team.
All staff have their own Personal Professional Development Programme and by focusing on “home grown talent” and investing in its employees, many senior roles are now held by people who have been promoted through the ranks.
Company information is cascaded throughout the organisation and all employees receive financial data, enabling them to see the success of the company they own first hand.
The business has a clear focus on producing THE BUSINESS MAGAZINE – THAMES VALLEY – DECEMBER 13/JANUARY 14
very high-quality products with enhanced performance and durability, and it has excelled in high-level motorsport, supplying the majority of cars racing in Formula One, Le Mans 24 hours, Indianapolis 500 and World Rallying.
It has also expanded into other sectors, including aerospace, marine and military, and supplies the mainstream automotive sector with hybrid/electric motor transmission projects.
Second place went to CV-Library from Fleet – already a winner of the SME of the Year Award. Third placed InstaGroup, from Finchampstead, near Wokingham, provides and installs a wide range of thermal and acoustic insulation products and various renewable energy solutions.
Highly Commended certificates were presented to Pulsant, Westcoast and Southern Communications.
