Inspiring the business world through ’green meetings’
The Portsmouth Marriott Hotel aspires to be a leader in demonstrating how responsible hospitality management can be a positive force for the environment, says senior sales manager Katie Dawson, and at the same time create economic opportunities in the communities in which we work and live
Our associates and guests work hard to make little changes to the way we do business in an increasingly- wasteful world, from our chef out in the greenhouse potting his own herbs, to our external experts turning our food waste into steam and energy.
All of our hard work over the past two years has paid off and we are proud to say that the hotel now recycles 98% of its waste from bedroom to kitchen and 100% of this waste is non-landfill.
In recognition, the Portsmouth Marriott has won several national and regional awards along the way, including: • Gold award from the Green Tourism Scheme • Silver award from Tourism South East’s Beautiful South Awards
• Most Green Hotel for the UK South by Marriott International.
For 2014, our ’Green Meeting’ package is also doing its bit. From complimentary crisp green apples and all stationary made from recycled materials to efficient use of energy and resources, we aim to give everyone a greener future in business.

Top rankings are just the job for B P Collins
B P Collins’ specialist expertise in both the employment and the environment sectors have given the Buckinghamshire-based legal firm a significant boost in the latest 2014 edition of legal “bible” Chambers UK.
The firm’s environment team, led by partner Diane Yarrow, is celebrating a rise to the top-ranked band one, and now shares its top placing with the real estate litigation group which retained its number one spot from 2012.
For the first time Jo Davis, partner and practice group leader of the employment team, has claimed number one ranking as a leading individual, winning praise for her ability to “develop good lines of defence”.

and barristers in over 60 specialist areas of law and is recognised as the most widely- used directory within the legal sector.
The environment team is known for advising clients on a wide range of environmental issues, with a particular focus on waste and recycling, and clients include Biffa Municipal, Grundon Group, I2O Water and ICE Energy Heat Pumps & Technologies.
Sarah McLoughlin leads the top-ranked real estate litigation team, which handles a wide spectrum of real estate disputes for local, national and international clients, including Epilepsy Society, The Original Bowling Company and Grove Court Properties.
Also celebrating a rise was the family team,
which went up to band two where it is now ranked alongside the employment team, the dispute resolution team, the private client team and the corporate team. The real estate team was ranked in band three.
Also singled out for special praise were McLoughlin, who was named as an “associate to watch” for the second year in a row, and employment partner James Townsend, who was identified as an “up and coming” leading individual, receiving plaudits for his “formidable knowledge of case law” and “flexible approach”.
Karl Wingfield, B P Collins’ chief executive, said: “We’re extremely pleased with the significant success achieved by our employment and environment teams and the fact that the consistency of our strengths across many areas has been recognised by Chambers. We look forward to continuing to build on that expertise in the year ahead.”
