Winners: Retail Marketing Group SPONSORED BY
The title of Best Company To Work For, sponsored by leading recruitment specialist Hays, was so hotly contended that the judges took the decision to split the award into two categories – over 100 employees and under 100 employees.
Having all impressed with entries which highlighted their successful workplace cultures and tremendous employee engagement, six companies were shortlisted in each section.
With over 100 employees were BDO LLP, Bottomline Technologies, Retail Marketing Group, Southern Communications, Stoke Park and Volume; while in the under 100 employees group was Berkeley PR, HMT LLP, Opsview, PHABRIX, ScentAir UK and STL Communications.
Mark Sheldon, managing director Home Counties at Hays, was invited onto the stage to announce the two winners – and it was congratulations to Retail Marketing Group and to PHABRIX.
The judges said of Retail Marketing Group: “This company’s leader is the personification of inspirational. The core belief of the company is to put their people first.” The audience heard that the company believes the job of the business is to inspire their staff, which in turn leads to delighted customers and growth.
With a mission to increase retail sales for its clients, who range from established multi-nationals such as Nokia, Sony PlayStation and LG; to new product brand launches, Retail Marketing Group focuses on the four key areas of retail recruitment, in-store

marketing, field sales solutions and effective demonstration.
The company was originally set up by an entrepreneurial Warren Richmond in 2005 in his back bedroom. Now based in Sindlesham, it has over 350 employees and achieved a £7 million turnover in its last financial year.
Managing director Richmond, who collected the trophy with his team, said the title was “by far the most prized of the year” among a number of awards already achieved over the past 12 months.
“If you look at everything we have won this year, this is the pinnacle of the awards. This highlights exactly what we are about. Having people at the heart of what we do is fundamental to our business, putting them first, ensuring everyone enjoys what they do and has clear goals,” he said, making it clear that more success was on the agenda in 2014.
The management team at Thatcham-based PHABRIX, a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative broadcast test and measurement devices, was applauded for having “inspirational leaders” who, said the judges, share a vision with the business that employees really buy into.
The award was presented to Phillip Adams, managing director of PHABRIX, and afterwards creative director Erica Adams, said: “We’re overjoyed to win this award, recognising what a great company PHABRIX is to work for. PHABRIX has a global reputation for innovation, and it’s important

we have the best people working with us to keep our products ahead of the curve.
“We’ve nearly doubled in size in the last two years, but remained a close-knit team. When moving headquarters last year we were conscious of changing from an open-plan layout to something more departmentalised, so we designed a central breakout space to help keep the strong team culture.
“We also regularly communicate the latest company news, whether it’s a charity event or updates from our trade exhibitions abroad, to keep staff united and focused on achieving our goals.”
PHABRIX employs 31 people and achieved a turnover of £4.2m in its last financial year.
Taking second place in the over 100 employees category was accountancy and business advisory firm BDO, while in third place was global digital marketing agency Volume. Highly commended were Bottomline Technologies, Southern Communications and Stoke Park.
Taking second place in the under 100 employees was business telephone solutions and broadband provider STL Communications and in third place was financial adviser HMT. Highly commended were Opsview, ScentAir UK and Berkeley PR.
