On Thursday, October 10th, Newton Primary and Nursery collected food and drink gifts for Start-Up Stirling. Start-up Stirling is a Christian organisation set up to help homeless people with things like emergency food packs and home starter packs including: toiletry packs, crockery packs & food packs.

The children brought in one or two pieces of food. All the food was tinned, dried or was either biscuits or pasta. The most popular items were pasta, soup and Heinz baked beans.

The children held an assembly and all sang “Harvest Samba”, P2 also sang “Hooray for Harvest”(pictured above); we had P4 singing “Paint-box” with P6 singing “A song of Gratitude”. The singing was great.

Rev. Sally Foster Fulton told us a very funny story and even helped by donating her story props of 5 tins of unknown items. She had taken off the labels to tell the story and had forgotten which tin was which!

All the food is to be donated to Start-Up Stirling and we are glad to have been able to help.

Flodden 1513 Concert On Wednesday, 25th September, 150 children from across Stirling were invited to perform as part of a festival to commemorate the 500 year anniversary of the Coronation of James V of Scotland. The concert was at the Church of the Holy Rude in Stirling.

Among the lucky children performing were the P.7s from Newton Primary School who sang one song individually as a choir and then, at the end, sang with all schools together, accompanied by the National Youth Choir of Scotland (which included singers from Newton P.S., Dunblane P.S. and St Mary’s E.P.S). The children stayed in the church for a half day practising hard before the concert.

All fi ve schools sang brilliantly on the night and it sounded wonderful. Mr Barr did a fantastic job conducting. There were also wonderful violins playing and recorders of diff erent sizes. The children sat beautifully throughout the concert and the parents, music teachers and conductor were very proud. The children were also very happy with the performance and will never forget it.
