What an achievement!

The future is looking very good, if one looks at the stunning achievements of a group of 12 to 18 year old

pupils at the Queen

Victoria School in Dunblane. This group of 45 enthusiastic youngsters recently received a Presidential Citation for their eff orts from the President of Rotary International who leads over 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide.

Not

content with this award, however, they were also recognised more locally by being named as Stirling Council’s Young Volunteer Group of the Year.

Less than 18 months ago this Interact Club was set up by local Rotary Club member Jill Adams in the School, and under its President, Rebecca Johnson, has set out to complete a remarkable target; namely to have organised and delivered 50 projects in the year!! This is to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the start of Interact Clubs within the Rotary movement.

It does not end there; the younger school pupils felt left out and wanted to do their bit too. So with the help of Jill and Rebecca they have set up Rotakids for 7 to 12 year olds. They are currently hard at work trying to better last year’s “Shoe Box” appeal where they fi lled nearly 100 boxes. Several other schools in the area participate in the Rotary Shoe Box Appeal along with the Rotary members themselves and this year it is hoped that over 400 boxes will be sent to need children and families in Romania.

Youth activities form an important part of the Rotary programme; we have a Young Chef competition coming up, we sponsor awards for citizenship and achievement at local schools and colleges and encourage youngsters to get involved in volunteering work.

We are very proud of the success of our Interact Club and hope that it may inspire other schools to join in. If you would like to discuss our youth activities, please contact the Club’s Secretary at secretary@dunblanerotary. org.uk. We’d be delighted to hear from you.
