DISTRIBUTED WIND

SOME OF OUR NEW READERS MAY NOT HAVE HEARD THE EXPRESSION ‘DIsTrIbUTED WIND’. JULIAN MArTIN CEO, ICE rENEWAbLEs ExPLAINs...

“Many of our customers in the agricultural and commercial sectors have high local energy demand whether to operate machinery or refrigeration equipment. Distributed wind energy production allows for energy to be produced at the point of consumption and allows the producer to directly off set local energy requirements and feed the excess produced back into the network to be consumed locally. This model is more efficient than centralised energy production as there is less energy loss across the grid.”

ICE RENEWABLES TACKLES UK INDUSTRY MEDIUM WIND STANDARDS WITH LAUNCH OF SPECIALIST OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE PACKAGE

Working with a reliable wind specialist is key to ensuring you minimise down time and make the most of the financial return for the lifetime of your wind asset.

MINIMUM STANDARDS

With the mushrooming of small and medium wind turbine installations across the UK since the Feed in Tariffs were introduced in April 2011, who is installing and operating and maintaining these wind turbines could potentially become an issue without minimum standards being introduced.

SPECIALIST PROVIDER

ICE Renewables, based in Northallerton, is an established company specialising in the small and medium wind sector and is focused on setting and maintaining the highest standards across the UK to ensure a viable and sustainable industry going forward.

RENEWABLEUK SMALL AND MEDIUM WIND STRATEGY GROUP At present there are no defined rules or medium wind standards for installers or O&M companies to work to and consequently the quality of services varies across the UK. However, the trade body RenewableUK has recognised this and is working with its small and medium wind strategy group, chaired by ICE Renewables CEO Julian Martin, towards developing a national MCS approved medium wind standard by 2014 and an international IEC medium wind standard later in the year for turbine design, site assessment, installation and operations and maintenance across the whole medium wind sector.

COMPLETE WIND SOLUTIONS PACKAGE

In keeping with these developments, ICE has launched an unrivalled ‘Complete Wind Solutions’ package, extending a specialist Operations & Maintenance service to manufacturers, developers and customers in the medium and Megawatt wind sector.
