FOCUS ON ORBISENERGY

INNOVATION, INCUBATION AND PERSPIRATION… KEY INGREDIENTS FOR THE LEADING OFFSHORE RENEWABLES HUB

FEATURE SPONSOR

“Huge offshore wind projects are creating some of the biggest opportunities in a generation, and they are not just for the technical companies specialising in renewables. There are opportunities for a much wider range of businesses.” says Johnathan Reynolds, Business Development Lead for Suffolk’s flagship innovation centre orbisEnergy and Director of energy firm nautilus Associates who explains further…

NORFOLK AND SUFFOLK Norfolk and Suffolk are at the centre of the world’s largest market for offshore wind. There’s around £30bn of planned investment in new energy projects in the region by 2020. We already have Scroby Sands, Sheringham Shoal, Greater Gabbard and London Array – and that’s only the beginning.

We have the 504MW Galloper wind farm recently approved, developments at Dudgeon off the Norfolk coast, and then there will be the biggest of them all, the thousand-plus wind turbines of the East Anglia Array. We’re looking at a market that’s tens of thousands of offshore wind turbines over the next decade.

ENERGY MIX

Offshore oil and gas is still big business in the region too, with more than £44bn of new investment in gas exploration, production and storage projects across the UK. There are plans for CO2 storage in the Southern north Sea; and onshore there are the nuclear power station developments.

Nowhere in the UK has a broader energy mix or provides as much business potential as Norfolk and Suffolk, and it’s not just the specialist energy sector companies who stand to benefit. They’ll need a supply chain of local companies providing manufacturing, design, engineering, operations and maintenance capabilities. And they’ll need a wider supply chain made of a huge range of supporting services, from financial and legal advice to catering. These companies will need support as they grow to meet the business demand, and that’s where OrbisEnergy can help.
