BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
THE PRIZE THAT IS EASILY WON IS WORTHLESS
You honestly started out meaning well and had such lofty dreams of unfettered success, so what’s the problem. Why do you seem to be so constantly doomed to disappointment?
The problem is that you are living in an age of instant gratification. All too often you want the quick fix, the instant fast- forward. You want it and you want it now. However, what you really need is to get healthy and well PERMANENTLY. To do that you need to have a plan that is built to last. A plan that you can still be doing; 6 months, 2 years and 10 years down the line. We need goals that come with a lifetime guarantee.
Sometimes true value is measured not in its monetary worth, but in the effort that has been exerted to attain it. Think of your greatest achievement, that ultimate pinnacle, the one that towers above all of your other high points in life. Now think what did you have to do to get there. I can guarantee it will not have been an easy road. Most likely there will have been a plentitude of blood, sweat and tears expended and there were probably at least a few points where you almost didn’t make it. I bet you needed a tremendous blend of will power and perseverance to get you through it. Why did you do it? Was it because you truly and wholeheartedly wanted it with every cell in your body? That is the key. You have to truly want your goals to happen. You cannot go into it half-hearted. Therefore, you need detailed and completely individualised goals. Change and health comes from within, from the top down and from the inside out. You have to focus your mind and only then can you change the world around of you and inside of you to your will. You do have the power to change your life so seize that power, don’t surrender it to someone else. It is all too easy for you to rely on external cues to guide your decisions and then you can use them as the excuses for your failure.
IF YOU DON’T HAVE A TARGET - YOU ARE GOING TO MISS
With that in mind you now need to know how to properly set your goals. Failing to correctly develop your goals is like starting out on a journey with no map and no planned route, so how can you be surprised when you get lost. Once you have a goal the key to making it stick is repetition and then more repetition until it becomes so engrained into your lifestyle that you begin to forget what it was like to not do it. For that to happen you need to be looking at planning for the next 4-6 months, at the very least.
CLEAR GOALS
To have clear goals takes a bit of extra work and involves you putting pen to paper, or more likely, finger to keyboard. To set SMART goals they need to be:
SPECIFIC
Your goals should be written in as much detail as possible. MEASURABLE
When you measure your progress, you stay on track. ATTAINABLE
You can attain almost any goal when you plan your steps wisely. REALISTIC
Goals must represent an objective toward which you are willing and able to work. TIMELY
All of your goals should have a specific time frame or date to create urgency.
DETAIL YOUR GOALS
Each goal needs to be written out in enough detail that each of the points is addressed. In this way rather than it being some vague wisp of an idea that is floating in the distant future you can have true ownership of it and the action plan to make it happen. The more specific you are then the greater your chances of success.
It will also help to formulate some goals for each area of the health trisection that I mentioned in my last article. You are more likely to succeed by working towards a combination of the three as each one will compliment the other. So what are your physical, nutritional (chemical) and emotional goals?
Good luck and remember when it gets difficult, and it will get difficult, by overcoming adversity you are forging your greatest triumphs. You can thank me when you get there.
