One for the county

L

iving in Monmouthshire means you are spoilt for choice when it comes to taking a car out for a

test drive. You don’t have to stick to the

motorway or get stuck in town – you can enjoy some fantastic country roads while taking in some great sights along the way. And so it was when Sinclair

Volkswagen, of Newport, gave MCL a two-litre diesel Tiguan to take for a spin this autumn. I’ve always liked the look of these

mid-size SUVs. They have a sporty edge to them and I was keen to see what it was like once I got behind the wheel. The initial part of the drive was a

trip down the motorway from Newport to Chepstow. The verdict - nice and smooth, road hugging and comfortable

– everything you would expect from such a stylish and well- designed motor.

Phase two was to take the

car out into the countryside and fi nd somewhere suitable to put it through its paces on a range of different surfaces.

Off we set. The road from Chepstow to Usk is nice and winding. We turned off just past Bully Hole Bottom to drive round the back of Wentwood and then up into the forest for a try along some forest tracks. The car handled itself well

– managing the wet roads and uneven surfaces with aplomb. The Tiguan is designed

for urban and off-road driving and is an ideal buy
