2014 Chev Silverado/GMC Sierra A truckload of technology

By ART STEVENS It’s been a long time coming, but the newest full-size pickups have arrived at your

General Motors dealer. The styling, technology and features are all new on both the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks.

Exterior Design The truck’s design is more squared to give the trucks an assertive look because of

the straighter lines and sharper edges than the 2013 design. The look is tougher thanks to a huge grill, taller hood and squared wheel wells. Some of the styling changes are functional, like the notches in the rear bumper and the bed rail which work as a step and handhold, respectively, to assist in getting into the truck bed. The extended cab is now a double cab, with short, front-hinged doors replacing

the previous rear-hinged doors. No longer is there a need to open the front doors to open the rear doors. The crew cab model offers an optional 6ft-6in bed, which takes the truck’s length to just half an inch under 20 feet.

Interior The cabin is tastefully designed and outfitted with the necessary nooks for phones,

MyLink, the GM “infotainment” system, is controlled by an optional 8-inch touch screen that compliments the many control knobs. The upscale model features five USB ports, an SD card slot, an auxiliary audio input, four 12-volt power plugs, and a 110-volt household outlet. Many luxury comforts
