an incredible 70 years of climbing Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains. He turns 82 this fall, and he’s been hunting since he was 12. Just last weekend we were out scouting the deer woods, putting up trail cams and checking some spots. (I hate to admit it, but he’s in better shape than I am.) It’s this long-standing tradition


and camaraderie that keeps us all coming back.


Anglers’ time Trophy fishing fanatics are aware


that some of the largest specimens of the year can be boated during October and November. There’s no better time to go trophy hunting than with big fish lurking behind every sunken log in our now-chilly lakes and rivers. When hunters are away, anglers


will play, so take advantage of some of the many fishing hotspots our region has to offer. The Ottawa, Rideau, Jock,


Bonnechere and Madawaska Rivers, and a handful of lakes produce bragging-size northerns, muskie and walleye as the water temperatures drop and vegetation begins to die off. If you don’t have an aversion to cold weather fishing, take advantage of turn-over and get out there on the water. The Ottawa River (Zone 12)

aficionados would never think of keeping a single fish. The biggest “lunge” I can recall us catching was a fat 40-pounder. Landing a fish of this size is something you never forget. With each hunting season comes
