water one day during a late fall fishing excursion. He never did get the boat off the trailer. He just used another one instead. Now that’s dedication. My boat is in winter storage long before the water starts to freeze. In spite of the weather, I counted
24 fishing boats in the derby. It was a sight to behold, all those boats competing for space along Peter’s and his neighbours’ docks and shoreline. It was also a local opening- day bass tournament, so it sure made the boating traffic in the small Baie de la Pentecôte congested for a while. In total, 50 people came from
Pennsylvania, the St. John Regional Chapter, Brockville, Cornwall, Hamilton and Toronto to compete against a host of local participants and special guests (including Robert Sopuck, Conservative MP for Dauphin−Swan River−Marquette, Manitoba). They were competing for the coveted Kahuna Cup for catching the largest Muskie of the day. By mid-day the Pennsylvania
crew were the primary trophy contenders with their 49-inch morning catch. John Lidsle won the Cup for the 2nd time with a 52 x 23.5 inch monster. I sent a text picture of the lure
I won from the afternoon raffle to Brian Warren (Bounder publisher). “That lure looks larger than some
of the trout you catch, Dave,” he wrote back. Ouch. Even though the weather was a
little unsettled, Ann and I had a good time. We are grateful to Peter, his partner Judy, and the Ottawa Chapter members for their hospitality. We had a lot of fun talking to the
